Well … some are a tad leery about what the

In South Korea they have a fall harvest festival called Chuseok. It is roughly equivalent to Thanksgiving. A very popular tradition is to send gift baskets to friends or family.

One Chuseok, I got spammed. Yes, I got a Spam gift basket. *Yuck*

Spam is considered a luxury item in South Korea since it was distributed by the US Army during the Korean War. The idea kind of stuck, so to speak.
