Bolder, I would agree — God laid on my heart many years ago that I should prepare for whatever and not necessarily for myself. During a rough hurricane season and again during 2020, we did not have to be concerned about what to eat or have the need to go out. I also had the privilege to bless a neighbor and one of my kids with needed supplies. It makes sense to prepare for whatever God may lead you too.

Ecclesiastes 11:1-2 “Cast your bread upon the waters, for you will find it after many days. Give a portion to seven, or even to eight, for you know not what disaster may happen on earth.“

No TR - they visit my ED and every ED around our country, on a daily basis to obtain food, drink, and a blanket — or a place to sleep it off.

The poor we will have with us always — true — but the others who refuse to help themselves —

II Thessalonians 3:10 “For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat.”

Just a little smile for y'all.    I was raised in a scouting family.  My grandfather started BSA in our city and my 6 sons are Eagles. I became a prepper during Y2K turnover.  We had only 1 income and had 7 kids.  When I heard we may go back to 1800's lifestyle I stocked up buying a bit extra when I saw a sale or had $.  No it wasn't Spam.  LOL  I only bought what we used and put away in order in basement.  I realized we'd be caring for 3 elders so I got them stuff.  For Christmas I gave my sister and brother in law a food box with a months worth of canned meats, food, and paper goods.  By the time New Years came I had enough for 9 months!  Yes my kids thought I was crazy but it wasn't wasteful.  New Years 2000 came and went and I used most of the food that year.  So when we retired and moved my kids renamed my preps as Y3K supplies.  LOL   I do tend to have a few extras as the budget allows and I'm known for pulling out the camp stove and making a pot of coffee and checking on my neighbors during power outages and helping as I can.  In my youth and younger days I was active during elections but got hurt once too often so now I research candidates and vote.  PS:  Try to locate a near water supply and have jugs and filters  in case a large power outage stops the pumps.
