Reuters reports that Dario Amodei’s Anthropic has confirmed that it operates a wet biology laboratory in the Bay Area where the company uses its AI models to conduct physical experiments. A wet lab is a facility that specifically deals with hazardous liquids or biological samples.

The revelation comes at an interesting time, as Amodei has led a campaign of AI doomers calling for a slowdown on AI technology accross the board. Critics like the Big Short’s Steve Eisman argue that Amodei’s goal is to create a moat around his business to protect it from competition.

Spencer Pratt has some predictions and none of them are good news for Hollywood. And it’s not as if Pratt is some random bystander here. He has worked in the industry and he knows a lot more about Los Angeles than the average person.

When Paramount leaves, all they need is one good quarter, and the floodgates will open. Every studio will leave. Nothing anchors the film industry to CA anymore, and if the bean-counters can make movies cheaper in TN, plus pay no income tax? Game over.

You used to need to be in LA if you wanted to be in the business. All the studios were physically there, and all the celebrities lived there: LA had the status. But now, everyone is leaving. LA isn’t cool anymore. Spielberg doesn’t live there anymore, Mel Gibson’s house burned down, Nic Cage’s driveway collapsed…why stay here and do battle with naked drug zombies and hours of traffic every day?

Studios are pragmatic. They prioritize the bottom line. …once Paramount pumps out a few movies that are in the black a month faster because they have less overhead in Tennessee…it’s going to be an instantaneous departure for everyone.

We don't need movies like Terminator 2 and its SkyNet to help us imagine this, it's 2026 and there is already a terrifying real-world precedent that could have kicked off a shooting war with nuclear-armed China.

A human analyst within the US intelligence community utilized data gathered by AI for a report that was later widely circulated across classified Pentagon channels, except that the chatbot which was relied upon in effect hallucinated nuclear weapons components being transported aboard a Chinese vessel bound for Iran.

Naturally this set off the highest alerts in Washington...

Supposedly elite assets were already airborne, ready to descend on the Chinese ship in question.

But then, "the operation was halted only after officials took a closer look at the intelligence report and discovered that it had been produced with assistance from an AI chatbot," CNN reports in a bombshell Friday exclusive. The episode reportedly happened last spring.

The severe error was realized with barely enough time to call off what could have been the geopolitical blunder and disaster of the century, "The chatbot had incorrectly identified the material the vessel was carrying."

The whole idea of evolution--that life began with pond scum--starts with the wrong premise.

When God created the universe, he said that it was good.  I wonder what he thinks of mankind now?  There is a lot of evil out there.

Yes, it does seem that in every generation our physical and mental ailments get worse and worse, and society itself is on a downhill slide.  This is accelerated by our "advances" in drugs and technology and "tolerance" for every bad thing imaginable.

It would not surprise me if people before the flood were smarter, and Adam and Eve were the pinnacle of all humans and we went downhill after them.  But still, they eventually fell into temptation.
