AI Doomers at Work: Anthropic Opens ‘Wet Lab’ for Biology Experiments:

Dario Amodei’s Anthropic, which has spent the last week pushing a campaign of fear about AI advancement, has revealed it built a “wet lab” to conduct AI-driven biology experiments.

Reuters reports that Dario Amodei’s Anthropic has confirmed that it operates a wet biology laboratory in the Bay Area where the company uses its AI models to conduct physical experiments. A wet lab is a facility that specifically deals with hazardous liquids or biological samples.

The revelation comes at an interesting time, as Amodei has led a campaign of AI doomers calling for a slowdown on AI technology accross the board. Critics like the Big Short’s Steve Eisman argue that Amodei’s goal is to create a moat around his business to protect it from competition.

The contrast between these stark warnings and the establishment of a wet biology laboratory has not escaped notice within the technology sector. Investor and AI coding startup founder Chamath Palihapitiya commented on the situation through social media platform X, posting with apparent irony: “The group behind such hits as: ‘We’re All Going To Die’ and ‘Regulate Me Now’ are building a wet lab in SF. I do not recommend this.”

Spencer Pratt Makes Some Ominous Predictions About Hollywood Amid Paramount’s Exit From California:

Now that it looks as though Paramount Studios will leave California for greener pastures in Tennessee, people are starting to wonder what is going to happen to the entertainment industry.

Spencer Pratt has some predictions and none of them are good news for Hollywood. And it’s not as if Pratt is some random bystander here. He has worked in the industry and he knows a lot more about Los Angeles than the average person.

Pratt recently wrote on Twitter/X:

When Paramount leaves, all they need is one good quarter, and the floodgates will open. Every studio will leave. Nothing anchors the film industry to CA anymore, and if the bean-counters can make movies cheaper in TN, plus pay no income tax? Game over.

You used to need to be in LA if you wanted to be in the business. All the studios were physically there, and all the celebrities lived there: LA had the status. But now, everyone is leaving. LA isn’t cool anymore. Spielberg doesn’t live there anymore, Mel Gibson’s house burned down, Nic Cage’s driveway collapsed…why stay here and do battle with naked drug zombies and hours of traffic every day?

Studios are pragmatic. They prioritize the bottom line. …once Paramount pumps out a few movies that are in the black a month faster because they have less overhead in Tennessee…it’s going to be an instantaneous departure for everyone.
