Good point, TR.

I went with some friends to feed the homeless on Christmas Day. They appear to be day to day, TR. Smile
They did enjoy the muffins, hot chocolate and clothing that we brought. I bought a whole bunch of socks for them. Socks are like gold for them, I have learned.

Not to mention the encouragement, bible tracts and free Bibles they took. (The real gold)

Matthew 6:25-34

New King James Version

Do Not Worry
25 “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?

28 “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; 29 and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

That's very nice of you Arthur.

I did volunteer to walk around the city and give bags with some food to the homeless. We were making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I wished we could make nicer sandwiches for them but we were told other sandwiches with veggies will get soggy.

we had the sandwich in the bag, fruit juice and an apple.

I was handing over a bag to a homeless lady. she asked: is this a peanut butter and jelly sandwich?  I said: yes. She had this annoyed and disappointed look on her face. I was very  hurt by her reaction. She really hurt me.

I do wish we could have made something nicer for them. A cheese sandwich with a bit of lettuce or cucumber would have been nicer and won't get too soggy.

The way I see it, to those who have been given much, much is expected.

-------

Luke 12:48

New King James Version

48 But he who did not know, yet committed things deserving of stripes, shall be beaten with few. For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more.

-------

I have been blessed financially in my life. It is a joy to help people that are down and out or have hit rock bottom. In fact, the homeless are generally among the most down to earth people you will meet. I find that I get a lot more out of it than I put in.

------

A lot of homeless people are missing teeth or have dental problems. So things that are easy to chew or digest are good. Muffins, while maybe not being the healthiest thing out there, seem to be popular. You do meet the occasional ungrateful person but you have to factor in the high rate of mental illness among drug users (attempted self medication) and homeless people. Like everywhere, you meet a few bad apples.
