Once frozen temp doesn't really matter! I've seen -20 here in Washington! Not what a California boy is used to! TR arthur, that does sound nice- pretty and clean and wild, wonderful nature...people are adaptable, thank the Lord- i actually had watched a documentary on siberia and their -60s etc it was crazy to me the way they had to live, but some were talking about how they chose to....but i think it takes time to adjust if you aren't born somewhere w/ extremes... & us southerners are in shock esp. those in waaaay south TX...where i am, we had negatives very briefly only once before that i was here for & not this low...we had -12 w/ windchill -25...but only my poor little dogs had to run out to potty and we got to stay in w/ fireplace and got to keep our heat! (found out we are on different grid than my other family members...i thought they were just using some sense & keeping the coldest parts on) my hubby used to go out hunting by Lesser Slave Lake. it gets cold there too out yonder in the woods. wish you could swap stories with him Arthur. there was the time when a bear destroyed the camp and left footprints on the truck the time he was lost in the woods up north and had to tie strips of shirt to bushes to not go in circles the time... :popcorn  he worked in subarctic of Labrador where the flies were huge and going after anything they could bite I watched two videos about extreme temperatures. One on a place in Siberia and one on a place in Ethiopia. The person in Ethiopia said that it was unbearable when the temperature dropped below 86 F. The person in Siberia said anything below -55F was a fine day. Lol.
