I heard a sermon long ago and far away about our new name. Can’t remember who preached it, believe it was a visiting evangelist during chapel at Bible college, that’s a maybe guess at best ... anyway I remember him saying our new name may come from the root of what our old name meant and we will have it on a stone ... so I remember looking mine up and in the Hebrew my name correlates with Tamar which can also be interpreted as palm tree, I was a bit disappointed until someone else mentioned that Solomon carved Palm trees all over the house of the Lord. :mdrmdr: I’ll take what the Father gives. :prayer-hands: Wonder what Hebrew is for: Heh you! TR I don't believe Arthur has a Hebrew cognate. My first middle name is Daniel, though, which means "God is my Judge." He is indeed. :good: Well that is cool … I love palm trees! My real name means “Victorious Spirit” …. I just looked up in Hebrew what is the symbol for victorious and it’s coming up with the 2 finger peace sign And spirit would be the turtle dove. Hey perhaps I will be singing that 2nd stanza of the coke song “I’d like to build the world a home and furnish it with love … grow apple trees and honeybees and Snow White turtle doves.” There is one slight teeny problem though B-) I don’t have a singing voice. :mdrmdr: Heh represents the 5th letter in the Hebrew alphabet so it means 5 … so perhaps it will be …. 5 U carved on your white stone? So Arthur, had to look it up ... typically we think of your name as Welsh in origin from King Arthur... but I did find a “loose” version in Hebrew Hebrew: ארתור (Artur) - AR'ELIY: Hebrew name meaning "lion of God." In the bible, this is the name of a son of Gad. So maybe ...  TR — I found this for you .. What does Yod Heh Vav Heh mean? The Name is represented by the Hebrew letters Yod-Heh-Vav-Heh (YHVH). It is often referred to in Judaism as the "Unutterable Name". In Scripture, this Name is used when discussing God's relationship to humanity, and when emphasizing His Qualities of Loving Kindness and Mercy. Joan means God is gracious. Pretty cool huh? Joan I looked up the Hebrew and your name is the feminine of John or Yohanan ... The name ultimately derives from the Biblical Hebrew name יוחנן Yôḥānān, short for יהוחנן Yəhôḥānān, meaning "Yahweh is merciful" You and our Yohanan carry a similar name —- way cool! B-) I believe Arthur means bear or strong as a bear. Arthur https://www.sheknows.com/baby-names/name/arthur/ A lion and a bear, oh my! Just need a tiger. 😉

Arthur is a traditionally masculine name with many different language roots and meanings. Its Scots/Celtic root is "artos," meaning "bear," and Arthur is said to mean "strong as a bear" — in Welsh, the name specifically means "bear hero." Arthur also draws from the Roman clan name Artorius, which means noble or courageous, and the Irish word "art," which means "stone." Variations include Art, Armel, Artis, Artie, Arturo, or even Auberon, which also means "bearlike."
