Mississippi Abolishes State Income Tax in Historic Win for Working Families and Economic Freedom:

Mississippi has officially abolished its state income tax, positioning itself as a leader in the movement for economic freedom and limited government.

Republican Governor Tate Reeves signed the legislation into law Friday, declaring it a “generational victory” and a bold new chapter for working families, entrepreneurs, and freedom-loving Americans across the South.

“We did it, Mississippi!” Reeves wrote in a triumphant post on X. “We just eliminated the income tax!”

There are nine states in the United States that do not impose a state income tax: Alaska, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming. And now, joining their ranks—Mississippi!

Reeves:

We are saying to job creators across America: if you want to build, come to Mississippi.

We are saying to families across the South: if you want to grow, come to Mississippi.

We are saying to entrepreneurs, to workers, to dreamers: Mississippi is open for business — and we won’t penalize your success.

We are going to compete — and we’re going to win.

Utah Governor Signs Bill Making State First to Ban Fluoride in Water Systems:

The state of Utah is now the first in the nation to ban fluoride in its public water systems after Gov. Spencer Cox (R) made it the law on Thursday.

The bill he signed, which prohibits any person or government entity from adding the mineral to his state’s water systems, will go into effect on May 7, NBC News reported Friday.

However, some medical associations and public health groups support adding fluoride to drinking water, claiming it helps protect people against cavities.

The NBC report continued:

Some studies have suggested that fluoride may negatively impact children’s neurodevelopment, including one recently published in the journal JAMA Pediatrics, which found an association between higher fluoride exposure and lower IQ scores in children.

“It’s got to be a really high bar for me if we are going to require people to be medicated by their government,” he added.

It is also important to note that U.S. Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has been a critic of fluoride in drinking water.

Trump suggests compensation fund for pardoned January 6 prisoners:

WASHINGTON, D.C. (LifeSiteNews) — President Donald Trump has alluded to the possibility of the government providing compensation for the men and women he pardoned shortly after taking office who were tried, convicted, and jailed for their participation in the January 6, 2021, protest event at the U.S. Capitol building.

“Is there any talk of – because they lost opportunity, they lost income – any kind of compensation fund or anything like that?” Newsmax host Greg Kelly asked the president.

“Well, there’s talk about that … a lot of the people that are in government now talk about that,” said Trump. “A lot of the people in government really like that group of people.”

“They were patriots as far as I was concerned,” declared the president. “They were treated very unfairly.”

“January 6 defendants were fraudulently prosecuted and thrown in jail for YEARS for peacefully protesting,” wrote former January 6 political prisoner John Strand, who posted a video clip of the interview on X.

“I will say this, they’ve been in jail for a long time already. I see murderers in this country get two years, one year and maybe no time. So they’ve already been in jail for a long time. These people have been destroyed,” said Trump in January when asked if any of the pardoned individuals had assaulted police, according to the New York Post

“What they’ve done to these people is outrageous,” he continued. “Even people that were aggressive, and in many cases, I believe they happen to be outside agitators. But what do I know? But I think they were. I think they were outside agitators. They were outside agitators. And obviously, the FBI was involved.”

“They’ve been treated very unfair[ly],” said Trump. “The judges have been absolutely brutal. The prosecutors have been brutal. And nobody’s ever treated people in this country like that.”

Many non-violent misdemeanor cases (and even some who did nothing more than enter the building) were subjected to disproportionate treatment and held in abysmal conditions while awaiting trial.

Sadly, the presidential pardons came too late for four young men – Mark Aungst, Chris Stanton, Jord Meachum, and Matthew Perna – who committed suicide rather than face jail terms for having been associated with the January 6, 2021, event at the U.S. Capitol.

Health and Human Services will lay off 10,000 workers and close agencies in a major restructuring:

WASHINGTON (AP) — In a major overhaul, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will lay off 10,000 workers and shut down entire agencies, including ones that oversee billions of dollars in funds for addiction services and community health centers across the country.

Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. criticized the department he oversees as an inefficient “sprawling bureaucracy” in a video announcing the restructuring Thursday. He faulted the department’s 82,000 workers for a decline in Americans’ health.

“I want to promise you now that we’re going to do more with less,” Kennedy said in the video, posted to social media.

...Kennedy, in announcing the restructuring, blasted HHS for failing to improve Americans’ lifespans and not doing enough to drive down chronic disease and cancer rates.

“All of that money,” Kennedy said of the department’s $1.7 trillion yearly budget, “has failed to improve the health of Americans.”

DOGE: Department of Labor Cancels $577 Million in ‘America Last’ Grants, Including for ‘Gender Equity in the Mexican Workplace’:

“Great work today by @USDOL @SecretaryLCD @Sonderling47 cancelling $577M in ‘America Last’ grants for $237M in savings,” DOGE announced, listing some examples of wasteful grants that were cancelled. One of the grants was worth $10 million for what DOGE described as “gender equity in the Mexican workplace.”

Another $12.2 million was for “worker empowerment in South America,” and $6.25 million was for “improving respect for Worker’s rights in agricultural supply chains” in Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador.

The canceled grants were intended for other countries as well, including $3 million for “safe and inclusive work environments” in Lesotho, $3 million to “enhance social security access and worker protections for internal migrant workers” in Bangladesh, $4.3 million for “assisting foreign migrant workers” in Malaysia, and $5 million for “elevating women’s participation in the workplace” in West Africa, per DOGE.

This follows DOGE updating its savings leaderboard, which now touts $130 billion in estimated savings. DOGE’s website explains that this is a “combination of asset sales, contract/lease cancellations and renegotiations, fraud and improper payment deletion, grant cancellations, interest savings, programmatic changes, regulatory savings, and workforce reductions,” which breaks down to a savings of $807.45 per taxpayer.

DOGE currently displays 9,289 grant terminations, which alone total $32 billion in savings.
