New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani tapped Mysonne Linen, formerly incarcerated rapper, to lead his City Hall transition team on public safety, according to reports. Until Freedom, a New York City-based social justice group, announced in late November that Linen would lead the group. “We are proud that Until Freedom leaders have been chosen to serve on Mayor-Elect Zohran Mamdani’s transition team on committees for public safety and criminal justice respectively,” the post read on Instagram. A Bronx jury in 1999 found Linen guilty of two armed robberies of taxi drivers, according to the New York Daily News. Linen was part of a group that robbed cab driver Joseph Exiri in 1997, hitting the driver with a beer bottle, and then he robbed cab driver Francisco Monsanto in 1998, taking his cash and a ring before fleeing. Reports at the time argued that he had no reason to rob these cab drivers because of the money he earned from writing songs for artists such as Lil’ Kim and Mase. He could have served up to 25 years in prison, but only served seven. The Trump Administration on Wednesday released footage of the US seizing a Venezuelan oil tanker. It was reported by Bloomberg earlier Wednesday that the US Coast Guard, with help from the Navy, seized the oil tanker off the coast of Venezuela. Later Wednesday, President Trump confirmed the report...“We’ve just seized a tanker on the coast of Venezuela. Large tanker, very large. Largest one ever seized action — and, other things are happening. So you’ll be seeing that later. And you’ll be talking about that later with some other people,” Trump said during remarks at his White House roundtable. “It was seized for a very good reason,” Trump added. “The tanker has been used in recent years in an illicit shipping network supporting foreign terrorist organizations,” FBI Director Kash Patel said. New York’s Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani just admitted he has no idea where to get the $700 million necessary to fund his “free bus” scheme. Actually, what you have here is a twofer. Not only does Mamdani have no plan, but here’s another example of the useless media asking these kinds of questions only after their guy is safely in office. The reporter points out that Mamdani does not want to take any money away from New York’s MTA (Metropolitan Transit Authority). Mamdani agrees. Then comes the question a real media would’ve been asking relentlessly and for months during the campaign: “How are you getting the $700M to make the buses free if the governor is not for raising taxes?” Mamdani answers with “raising the corporate tax.” The reporter points out that New York’s Democrat Gov. Hochul has said she won’t do that. Then, Mamdani fires off this howler: “The most important fact is that we fund it, not the question of how we do it, but that we do it.” That might make the affluent, white, female leftists (or AWFLs) swoon, but back in the real world… First off, if you want to turn New York City’s transit system into a stinky, full-time, violent, winter homeless encampment, make public transit free. Great idea, Zohran. The most revealing thing here, though, is the mayor-elect of one of the world’s biggest cities playing chicken and egg. In his Third World mind, it’s all, What comes first—the doing or the funding? It doesn’t matter that unicorns don’t exist. What matters is that I find one. The media is once again outraged at a supposed “attack on free speech” from the Trump administration, this time over the launch of a media bias tracker on the White House website. But while liberal journalists can complain all they want that someone is calling out their biased and dishonest reporting, the new web page is exactly the accountability tool that Americans deserve. The tracker, which officially went live late last month, lists a “Media Offender of the Week” detailing news articles sharing misleading or outright false reporting. This week’s offender is The Washington Post for publishing “an article from two unnamed sources claiming Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered a Joint Special Operations commander to ‘kill everybody’ during an anti-terrorist operation in the Caribbean Sea.” The page then sets the record straight with a “truth” section. In this case, that section reads: “The Department of War killed 11 narco-terrorists in a coordinated strike designed to ‘kill the narco-terrorists who are poisoning the American people.’ ... The page also includes an “Offender Hall of Shame,” creating a record of every media hoax and baseless smear. Top offenders include the Post, CBS News, CNN, and MSNBC. The journalists who are being called out by the White House are, unsurprisingly, melting down. Katherine Jacobsen, who works for the “Committee to Protect Journalists,” called the offenders page a “smear campaign” – despite the fact that the page only uses direct quotes and claims from news outlets and then explains why they are incorrect. Jacobsen also accused the White House of making it “less safe” for journalists to do their job, even though the media’s incessant pattern of calling Trump and all of his supporters “fascists” and “Nazis” has led to a near-miss assassination attempt on the President and violent attacks on everyday Americans. Another group called “Reporters Without Borders” accuses the Trump administration of waging “war on the press” and “disparaging the media” – as if that same press hasn’t been looking for every opportunity over the last decade to smear and defame Trump and anyone associated with him. When the Founding Fathers enshrined Freedom of the Press in the Bill of Rights, they did so with the understanding that the press should be a watchdog of the wealthy, powerful, and connected. In a properly ordered free society, the press is on the side of the people, seeking to expose corruption and honestly report the news, no matter who is in power. But our modern corporate press corrupts and subverts this arrangement. Instead of acting as a check on the powerful, most of the media serves as a tool of monied interests or certain political ideologies. The system has broken down because the press has itself become a political actor. A self-governing republic depends on every institution, the media especially, being accountable to the truth. The White House has now responded to the scandal, and did not hold back. The blue slip practice currently functions as an informal veto power for home-state senators. The current Senate Judiciary Committee policy requires positive blue slips from both home-state senators for a nominee to receive a committee hearing and a potential vote. The blue slip policy is a tradition and a matter of the Senate Judiciary Committee chairman’s policy, not a formal Senate rule. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), has committed to honoring the blue slip tradition for district court nominees and U.S. attorneys. “Blue Slips are making it impossible to get great Republican Judges and U.S. Attorneys approved to serve in any state where there is even a single Democrat Senator,” Trump declared. “If they say no, then it is OVER for that very well qualified Republican candidate. Only a really far left Democrat can be approved.” According to Trump, the situation has reached a “shocking” level of partisan unfairness. “It is shocking that Republicans, under Senator Chuck G, allow this scam to continue,” Trump wrote. “So unfair to Republicans, and not Constitutional.” Republicans voted to terminate a temporary free-money program and the democrats are angry. The Senate voted down a Democratic bill to extend the temporary Affordable Care Act subsidies, which ensures the subsidies will lapse at the end of the year. The enhanced ACA subsidies were originally created as temporary pandemic relief through the American Rescue Plan Act in 2021 and extended through 2025 by the Inflation Reduction Act. They were designed as emergency measures, not permanent changes to subsidy rules. Republicans also object that the subsidies benefit insurance companies directly, since ACA law allows insurers to keep 20 percent of payments as overhead and profit. Senate Majority Leader John Thune emphasized that the GOP alternative would have provided funds directly to patients. Thune further criticized Democrats for proposing a three-year extension without addressing rising system costs. When a subsidy expires, out-of-pocket costs naturally rise. Since the United States is not a socialist country, it is normal for people to pay for their own insurance and to pay the full price rather than rely on government subsidies.
