Offering up some benefits that I can see, and hoping you can add as well!

Exercise of denial and dying to ourselves as a spiritual principle!  Next we are told that when we are weak, His strength sustains!

When we deny ourselves, we can better focus on His will!

Also told that it is an axiom for spiritual worship!

Any other benefits?!

People fast for:  blood work, hoping to pass the colonoscopy exam and before a major operation.

One of several Q&A Examples from Jack Kelley:

Question -- My question is about fasting. I know that there are examples in the New Testament of people fasting, but I’ve never had a pastor ever teach about it. How should we fast? When? For how long? How often? How does it work? What is it’s purpose? Please teach me about this subject and how I should incorporate it into my own life and walk with God. Thank you, as always, for all of your hard work.

Answer -- Believers fast when they want to show that an issue has great urgency or importance to them. It could be for healing, direction, intercession or other significant matter. The length and type of fast depends on the person, and could be a partial fast, like foregoing only certain foods, or a complete fast. The important thing is that you do what you commit to and keep it secret.

Matt. 6:17-18 says, “But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”

Since the Lord didn’t say “If you fast” but “When you fast” it seems that fasting should be a regular part of our prayer life.

Besides medical purposes, I never understood the need to fast.  Personally if I go without food (just 1 meal) … I can’t think properly and I find myself making the wrong change  at the check out.  The Lord hears our prayers regardless of fasting … so why does a person do it in the first place?

When we can't fast and forego food for medical reasons, we can fast other things, seems to me!

The idea being sacrificial living!

Rather than self indulging, we offer it to the lord!  But Jesus made it clear there was a certain power imbued for casting out of demons when fasting was enjoined!

Yes, if we need help …  JESUS’ mighty name is all that is needed if you are dealing with a spiritual battle and want instant relief.  No fancy prayer or fasting.  I used to go thru a prayer Dear Heavenly Father ……… but until I said in JESUS name, Amen … BAM instant relief.

When you’re on the front lines of the battlefield (preaching/teaching or praying for the lost or soul winning, etc) its a given …you will be bothered by these demonic forces.  One time in 2004 I warned 3 people about something and that night I was awoken by the roar of the lion and it wasn’t Jesus.  My bedroom smelled like sulfur and rotted flesh.  I silently called out JESUS and the next thing I felt a gust of wind come through the closed window … the wind was so great I could only squint my eyes and I could see white robes flying by … the next thing I heard the sound of swords fighting.  Then all was quiet and the room smelled of fresh flowers.  So JESUS’ mighty name is it … if you want rescue.

Also really good praise music will keep the demonic forces away … they hate it.

Ron Hamilton’s “Wings As Eagles” CD works.  I can vouch on that.

Here is an example of an unsaved person that can not cast out demons … but a saved believer can with quoting Scripture and directing the lost to Jesus and if the unsaved that is possessed by demon(s) or into the occult is willing and want to become Born Again … then the demon(s) have to come out of them and the Holy Spirit takes up residence.

Acts 19:11-20

11 And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul:

12 So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.

13 Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.

14 And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so.

15 And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?

16 And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.

17 And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.

18 And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds.

19 Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.

20 So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.

—————————-
Here is an example of demons that leave an unsaved person … but will return again and bring more evil spirits with him because … “he finds it empty” … the Holy Spirit is not residing in that lost person.  But if the Holy Spirit is … then the demons can not return.

Matthew 12:43-45

43 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.

44 Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.

45 Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation,
