President Donald Trump signed a proclamation on Oct. 9 recognizing Oct. 13 as Columbus Day in honor of Italian explorer Christopher Columbus. “Columbus Day, we’re back, Italians. We love the Italians,”Trump said after signing the proclamation at the White House. In his proclamation, Trump hailed Columbus—whose 1492 expedition from Spain reached the Caribbean and marked the beginning of sustained European exploration and colonization of the Americas—as “the original American hero” and “a giant of Western civilization.” “As we celebrate his legacy, we also acknowledge the contributions of the countless Italian-Americans who, like him, have endlessly contributed to our culture and our way of life,” the president stated in his proclamation. Trump denounced who he called “left-wing radicals” who attempted to “erase our history” and “attack our heritage” by toppling Columbus statues and tarnishing the explorer’s character. “Under my leadership, those days are finally over—and our Nation will now abide by a simple truth: Christopher Columbus was a true American hero, and every citizen is eternally indebted to his relentless determination,” he stated. The federal holiday was still known as Columbus Day during Biden’s term, but also as Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Activists had long wanted to shift the focus from commemorating Columbus’s navigation to the Americas to his and his successors’ exploitation of the indigenous people he encountered there. During his first term, Trump stated in a 2020 proclamation that “radical activists have sought to undermine Christopher Columbus’s legacy,” amid reports of vandalism targeting statues of the Italian explorer in some states. The results were pretty appalling and showed a lack of biblical knowledge... But there was one statement on the survey, reworded from previous years, that I wanted to focus on here in a separate post—and it’s about politics. Survey respondents were asked to either strongly agree, somewhat agree, somewhat disagree, or strongly disagree with the following statement (or they could select “not sure”): "Christians should not allow their religious beliefs to influence their political decisions." Over half (54%) of US adults agreed with this statement. Ironically, at the same time, 95% of the same group believe that “The Bible has the authority to tell us what we must do.” So the Bible has the authority to tell us what to do—unless it’s a political decision. That’s inconsistent nonsense! We cannot leave our Christian beliefs—our biblical worldview—at the door when we engage in politics as a citizen or as a politician. We’re not neutral, and neither is the sphere we’re entering. We’re to seek the good of the nation we’re in and use our influence to be salt and light for such a time as this as we do the King’s business until he returns. Trump’s former National Security Advisor John Bolton was indicted by a grand jury in Maryland on Thursday. If convicted, Bolton is facing decades in prison, which would be a life sentence for him because he is 76 years old. As The Gateway Pundit previously reported, the U.N. this week was “poised to impose what amounts to a global tax on carbon emissions” — what the WSJ called “the ultimate in taxation without representation.” Despite lacking both sovereign authority and enforcement power, the U.N.’s London-based International Maritime Organization (IMO) could attempt to saddle ships with taxes ranging from $100 to $380 per metric ton of carbon dioxide that exceeds a certain emissions level. The Trump administration had threatened sanctions against countries whose U.N. bureaucrats voted for such nonsense. “I am outraged that the International Maritime Organization is voting in London this week to pass a global Carbon Tax,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “The United States will NOT stand for this Global Green New Scam Tax on Shipping, and will not adhere to it in any way, shape, or form.” “We will not tolerate increased prices on American Consumers OR, the creation of a Green New Scam Bureaucracy to spend YOUR money on their Green dreams. Stand with the United States, and vote NO in London tomorrow!” Thankfully, the threats have paid off. On Friday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that the tax will not be implemented. While this is a welcome win, the fact that the UN was even considering such an authoritarian move is highly alarming. Imagine if Kamala Harris or another Democrat had been in office instead of Trump. A family outing to a local farmer’s market turned ugly in Wisconsin after Democrats from Winnebago County handed an eight-year-old child a bracelet calling for President Trump’s death. As the family wandered the various booths at the Oshkosh Farmers Market, Oshkosh resident Katy Neubauer told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that although she and her sister-in-law are not Democrats, they met near the Winnebago County Democrat Party tent because it had activities for kids. Neubauer said the bracelet read, “Is he dead yet?” Neubauer said she later returned to the booth and noticed other bracelets with anti-Trump messages, including ones marked “8647.” The phrase combines “86,” slang for “get rid of” or “kill,” with “47,” referring to Trump as the 47th president. The mother said she contacted the market’s manager, who told her she wasn’t the first to complain.
