The bigger picture shows D.C. crime is on the rise, former Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund said during an appearance on Breitbart News Daily, days after President Donald Trump announced he is placing the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department under direct federal control and activating the National Guard to restore law and order in the nation’s capital. When Chief Lanier was chief, think about 2010 to 2014, we had a homicide rate that was maybe right around 100, 170 a year. Now 2023, you got 274 homicides. So you had a significant increase,” he said, addressing the individuals who claim D.C. crime is going down — a narrative pushed by D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser (D). “They’ve always, historically, been very soft on punishment on juvenile crime. And the concern with that is, if you don’t begin to address behavior at a young age, it’s just going to get worse,” he noted, emphasizing that the D.C. homicide rate is “five to six times that of any other major city in the United States.” The Texas House Democrats who abandoned their state in protest of the Republican-led redistricting effort will return home after Gov. Greg Abbott (R) took “emergency action” to begin removing the absent legislators as they refused to show up for work. “Today I took emergency action to begin the removal from office of derelict Democrat Texas House members who refuse to show up for the special session,” the governor said in a statement. Trump: To protect our benefits, we’ve already kicked nearly 275,000 illegal aliens off of the Social Security system. These are people—many of them have already left the country—and yet we were sending them checks all the time. We cleared 12.4 million names listed in the Social Security database over 120 years of age. Just think of that. So we had 12.4 million names where they were over 120 years old. There were nearly 135,000 people listed who were over 160 years old, and in some cases getting payments. So somebody’s getting those payments, and we’re after that.” Social Security has dramatically increased accountability. President Donald Trump said that he and Russian President Vladimir Putin had an “extremely productive meeting” in Alaska about winding down the Ukraine war, but he also stressed “there’s no deal until there’s a deal.” Trump and Putin emerged for a press conference after a 3-hour closed-door meeting with their top advisers with optimistic messages, though a deal has not been reached or finalized. “I will say that I believe we had a very productive meeting. There were many, many points that we agreed on, most of them, I would say–a couple of big ones that we haven’t quite gotten there, but we’ve made some headway. So there’s no deal until there’s a deal,” Trump said. Trump said his next move is to call the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. “I will call up the various people that I think are appropriate, and I’ll, of course, call up President Zelensky and tell them about today’s meeting. It’s ultimately up to them,” he added. Trump also emphasized the investment pouring into the United States and hinted at the opportunities Russian businesses could have if the war came to an end. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will meet with President Donald Trump at the White House on Monday after Trump’s positive meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday. Trump, who is looking to bring the Ukraine war to a close, took to Truth Social early Saturday morning to announce that he had spoken with Zelensky following the Putin summit in Alaska, and the understanding among all parties is that a peace deal, rather than a ceasefire, must be reached. He also revealed Zelensky is coming to Washington: A great and very successful day in Alaska! The meeting with President Vladimir Putin of Russia went very well, as did a late night phone call with President Zelenskyy of Ukraine, and various European Leaders, including the highly respected Secretary General of NATO. It was determined by all that the best way to end the horrific war between Russia and Ukraine is to go directly to a Peace Agreement, which would end the war, and not a mere Ceasefire Agreement, which often times do not hold up. President Zelenskyy will be coming to D.C., the Oval Office, on Monday afternoon. If all works out, we will then schedule a meeting with President Putin.
