The people of New York City got a good taste of communism earlier this week months after electing Marxist Zohran Mamdani for mayor. As Fox News reported, a pop-up shop opened up on Sunday for five days in the West Village to offer free groceries to impoverished New Yorkers and people simply looking for an easy lunch. The outlet notes this comes Mayor Mamdani advanced one of his key campaign promises: city-run grocery stores aimed at lowering food costs. The store, which is called The Polymarket, was opened by a cryptocurrency-based prediction market with the same name. The Polymarket offered yellow ticket granting NYC residents entry to the little store. As The Gateway Pundit reported, the US Supreme Court on Friday struck down President Trump’s tariffs in a 6-3 decision. The Court said Trump lacks the authority to impose the tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). Chief Justices Roberts, Amy Coney Barrett, and Neil Gorsuch sided with the three leftist justices. Justices Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas, and Brett Kavanaugh dissented. It is also telling that in IEEPA’s half-century of existence, no President has invoked the statute to impose any tariffs, let alone tariffs of this magnitude and scope. Accordingly, the President must ‘point to clear congressional authorization’ to justify his extraordinary assertion of that power. He cannot. President Donald Trump’s Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has issued a rule to prevent illegal aliens from gaining access to taxpayer-funded housing, like Section 8, meant for low-income Americans. On Thursday, HUD issued its rule to require proof of American citizenship or eligible immigration status for such housing aid. HUD Secretary Scott Turner said the rule is meant to close a long-held loophole that has allowed illegal aliens to secure public housing assistance. President Trump on Friday followed through on his earlier promise to sign an executive order imposing a 10% global tariff on every country importing goods into the United States. This comes in response to the Supreme Court invalidating his tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). Trump signed the executive order, titled “Imposing a Temporary Import Surcharge to Address Fundamental International Payments Problems,” setting up the 10% ad valorem tariffs to take effect on February 24. “Effective immediately, all national security tariffs under Section 232 and existing Section 301 tariffs— they’re existing, they’re there— remain in place, fully in place, and in full force and effect.
