This result shouldn't surprise anyone. Inflation has driven up operational costs for businesses across the US and shrunk profit margins for major food chains in the past few years. This has led to higher menu prices (like the "$18 Big Mac") and slowing sales for every major fast food company. Another anchor dragging on the restaurant business in many regions was at least two years of Covid stimulus coupled with rent moratoriums, creating aggressive labor shortages and raising wages upwards of $16 per hour for brand new no-skill employees. Small chains and mom-and-pop businesses simply can't compete. Larger chains raised prices but have also been forced to reduce employees and labor costs through automation, but the layoffs are just getting started. "Restaurants are struggling to stay above water, and Democrats just threw them an anvil," California Assembly Republican leader James Gallagher told FOX Business. "We warned Democrats this new mandate would cost jobs. They ignored us, and here we are with the highest unemployment rate in the country poised to get even worse." The "digital options" that many fast food franchises are referring to are automated ordering systems as well as robot workers which are slowly but surely becoming more cost-effective than human laborers. At least one fast food location in California is testing a fully robotic restaurant with no human workers. The problem that is typical among leftists is a lack of understanding when it comes to the basics of business operations. This kind of business model is beyond the comprehension of the average socialist. They simply see workers whose wages are not keeping pace with the high cost of living in California and assume business owners are greedy. Well, get ready for more job losses and get ready for the takeover of fast food robots because these are the only options franchise restaurants have left. They might be able to force business owners to pay $20 an hour for no-skill labor, but they can't force those business owners to keep hiring. Furthermore, it's likely that the FAST Act will trigger yet another tsunami of businesses leaving California for other states with less bureaucracy and a less demanding labor market. Meaning, more jobs for red states and more unemployment for California. Pulpit Problems: 41% Of Churchgoers Find No Biblical Problem With Homosexual ‘Marriages’: Another depressing poll was recently highlighted in a Christian Post article. The authors, John Stonestreet and Jared Hayden, present the causes for why gay “marriage” has been widely and rapidly accepted since 1996 (and even has trended upward more quickly in recent years). According to a couple of 2023 Gallup polls, 71% of Americans think same-sex “marriage” should be legal, and 64% believe gay relationships are morally acceptable. These numbers are way up from a generation ago (27% thought gay “marriage” should be legal in 1996 and only 40% thought it was morally acceptable in 2002). Among those who attend church weekly, 41% support same-sex “marriage.” Now this is very deflating that 41% of regular churchgoers do not have any biblical problems with homosexual “marriages.” Of course, to me, that is the root cause of this trend in churches, the lack of knowledge and the lack of teaching on biblical authority (which the authors of the article hint at but never actually state). In many churches, the Bible is simply taught as a book of good morals, or even worse, as positive reinforcement for not being “judgmental.” America, and increasingly even many “Christian” churches, have abandoned biblical authority and replaced it with “feel-good” and “follow your heart” theology. I guess the 41 percent of church goers don't know the bible. Why don't they see such things are disgusting even without the Bible? Yukko. The University of California Los Angeles Medical School required all first-year students to attend a lecture in March by a guest speaker on “racial equity” who led students in a prayer to “Mama Earth” and chants of “Free Palestine.” The Free Beacon reported: In a mandatory course on “structural racism” for first-year medical students at the University of California Los Angeles, a guest speaker who has praised Hamas’s Oct. 7 attack on Israel led students in chants of “Free, Free Palestine” and demanded that they bow down to “mama earth,” according to students in the class and audio obtained by the Washington Free Beacon. Lisa “Tiny” Gray-Garcia, who has referred to the Oct. 7 terrorist attacks as “justice,” began the March 27 class by leading students in what she described as a “non-secular prayer” to “the ancestors,” instructing everyone to get on their knees and touch the floor—”mama earth,” as she described it—with their fists. … So began a long and looney lecture that shocked some students at the elite medical school and has led to calls for an investigation. Wearing a keffiyeh that covered her entire face, Gray-Garcia, a self-described “poverty scholar,” led the class in chants of “Free, Free Palestine” as faculty and staff looked on in silence, according to people in the course and contemporaneous text messages reviewed by the Free Beacon. Students who refused to participate were reportedly admonished, the Free Beacon reported.Mass Layoffs Begin At California Fast Food Chains As $20 Minimum Wage Law Takes Effect:
