An alleged U.S. intelligence assessment says there are around one dozen Iranian mines in the Strait of Hormuz, CBS News has claimed. If true, the sea mine allegation would weigh on the apparently developing peace talks between Washington and Tehran, given the United States’ demands that the Strait of Hormuz be opened for global oil traffic. Kaufman County, Texas, residents became aware in early February that a potential city was going to be built in their backyard and accused local officials of being very secretive about the deal. When asked for an update on the planned community after residents expressed concern about an alleged closed-door meeting March 18 with county officials, community leaders, and the developer, Republican Texas Rep. Lance Gooden told the Caller that the developers decided to withdraw their proposal from Kaufman County. Kaufman County Judge Jakie Allen responded to the Daily Caller, saying there was “not a closed meeting” March 18. The Knesset National Security Committee, chaired by MK Tzvika Foghel, approved the Death Penalty for Terrorists bill for its second and third readings on Tuesday evening. The bill, advanced by National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and MK Limor Son Har-Melech, is expected to come up for final approval in the Knesset plenum as early as next week. According to the approved version of the bill, a terrorist who intentionally causes the death of a person in the course of a terrorist act motivated by nationalist ideology will face the death penalty. The legislation includes several groundbreaking provisions in the Israeli legal system: courts will be required to impose the death sentence with no discretion for leniency, and a unanimous decision by the panel of judges will not be necessary. The law also strips the President of the authority to grant clemency to terrorists sentenced to death.
