Damascus, Turkey, and the Coming Ezekiel War: [One hour, 2 minutes] This week’s disclosure that International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors found several tons of undeclared nuclear material inside Syria, and the resolution of a months-long, secret standoff between Israel, the United States, and Damascus over a second stockpile at a site known as “Site 99,” together mark the reemergence of exactly the kind of unconventional threat Israel has spent nearly two decades trying to ensure never took root on its border again... IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi told reporters in Damascus this week that inspectors had found “a few tons of nuclear material that could be put to bad use” at an undisclosed site dating to the Assad era, which Syria’s transitional government voluntarily reported to the agency on July 17. Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani said the material, several tons of natural uranium metal along with quantities of graphite, would remain in Syrian custody under IAEA safeguards rather than be removed from the country, and asserted Syria’s “sovereign and legal right” to pursue a peaceful nuclear program. Separately, Axios reported that the United States, Israel, and Syria reached a quiet agreement to deal with nuclear material, including yellowcake, that Israel says the Assad regime stored at “Site 99,” material officials say cannot fuel a nuclear weapon but could be used in a radiological dispersal device, a so-called dirty bomb. Jerusalem has continued treating northern Syria as an active security theater, striking suspected weapons transfers and military infrastructure inside the country since Assad’s fall and voicing open concern, according to Axios, that Turkey may be assisting Damascus in reaching unaccounted-for nuclear material. Bible Prophecy Q&A: Iran, Israel & the Millennium: [57 minutes] Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said during an interview on Monday that Iran attempted to kill one of his sons. Benjamin Netanyahu has two sons, Yair and Avner. His older son Yair lives in Miami, Florida, and is more of a public figure due to his online activism, while Avner lives in Israel. He also has a daughter from his first marriage, Noa Netanyahu-Roth, who lives in Israel. He did not say which of his sons was the target... A beit din (rabbinic court) of three, led by Rabbi Yisrael Ariel on behalf of the nascent Sanhedrin, announced this week that it has renewed a ruling permitting the shofar to be blown on Shabbat when Rosh Hashanah falls on the seventh day of the week. For nearly two thousand years, in every synagogue in the world, the shofar has fallen silent whenever Rosh Hashanah lands on Shabbat. The choice of the shofar carries meaning that goes well beyond the technical question of Shabbat law. Zechariah writes of the shofar’s connection to divine victory in battle: “Then the Lord will appear over them, and His arrow will go forth like lightning; the Lord God will sound the shofar, and will march in the storms of the south” (Zechariah 9:14). The verse binds the shofar’s blast to God’s own intervention on the battlefield, the same association the beit din invoked in its announcement. Its members spoke of the hope that the coming year, difficult at its outset, will not end in the sound of the teruah of war, but in a teruah announced by the shofar itself, calling down peace for the people and the land of Israel. With Rosh Hashanah falling on Shabbat this coming September, that hope now has a fixed date. In that framing, the sound the Sages once silenced out of caution becomes, in this ruling’s telling, an instrument the beit din hopes will hasten the end of war rather than announce its beginning.
