Speaking at the annual conference of the Institute for National Security Studies, Bennett said that "within about a year, the Israel Defense Forces will implement a laser-based interception system," adding that the new technology "will be implemented in the south first, and later elsewhere." "The system will allow Israel to be surrounded by a laser wall that will protect it from missiles, rockets, UAVs and other threats," the prime minister added. The new and more technologically advanced shield will eventually scale out the highly-regarded Iron Dome air defense system currently utilized in all parts of the country; a laser-based interception system has the additional benefit of minimal operational costs. “If we can intercept a missile or rocket with an electric pulse that costs only a few dollars, we will by all accounts neutralize the ring of fire Iran has set up around our borders,” Bennett said. So, the thought would be that Israel's enemies may want to attack before this laser shield gets installed and is operational. Interesting article speculating on the idea that the Vatican has a storeroom of ancient Jewish items from the second temple period.
