The confusion probably originated from the fact that the Greek word for cakes and bread made from the flour of the carob bean, aka locust bean, is “egkrides” and the Greek word for locust the insect is “akrides”. Many Bible scholars feel the translators goofed up when translating from the Greek over to the English Language. This here tree is found in the wilderness region that John the Baptist dwelled in and its the carob tree, which produces pods that are pretty tasty and nutritious, and closely resembles the locust tree.
