White House: Russia Could Launch Attack on Ukraine ‘at Any Point’:

The White House raised more concerns about the future of Ukraine on Tuesday, as Russians amass troops at the border.  White House press secretary Jen Psaki raised the alarm during the daily briefing.

“We believe we’re now at a stage where Russia could at any point launch an attack on Ukraine,” Psaki said. “I would say that’s more stark than we have been.”

Russia had begun evacuating families of staff at their diplomatic locations in Ukraine, an indication that they plan to escalate activity in Russia, the New York Times reported Tuesday.

“Our view is that this is an extremely dangerous situation,” she said.

Psaki said Secretary of State Tony Blinken would meet with his Russian counterpart in Switzerland this week to urge Putin not to invade Ukraine and warn of “severe” consequences if they chose to do so.  “No option is off the table,” she said.

It must not be a big deal, just some mortars fired imo

For people who live in that region. I am sure it is a big deal and traumatic.

Anyway, I have not been paying attention to the news. I can only handle so much news.

Ukrainians comes across as nice people.

California May Soon Double Its Taxes To Pay For Influx Of Illegals:

A new bill unveiled by California lawmakers at the beginning of the year proposes to establish a single-payer health care system. The plan would be funded by nearly doubling the state’s already-high taxes.

It has been determined that the proposed constitutional amendment would increase taxes by roughly $12,250 per household to fund this first-of-its-kind health care system, according to a recent analysis by the Tax Foundation, an independent nonpartisan group that supports lower taxes.

Jared Walczak, a fellow at the Tax Foundation, says the proposal has three main revenue-raising features: higher income taxes on the wealthy, a payroll tax on large companies’ employees, and a new gross receipts tax.

It is estimated that the top marginal rate on wages will rise to 18.05% under the proposed legislation, which is much higher than the state’s 12.3% rate and the median top marginal rate of 5.3%.  Moreover, the state would also impose a new gross receipts tax (GRT) of 2.3% on qualified businesses minus their first $2 million in gross receipts, which is three times higher than the current highest GRT in the country.

In his remarks, Walczak noted that the proposed tax increases come as California struggles to retain residents as more move to red states with lower taxes. Using Census Bureau data, a separate Tax Foundation analysis shows that California’s population declined 0.8% by 2021 while lower-taxed states saw their populations rise.

“Practically doubling state taxes—even if the burden is partially offset through state-provided health coverage—could send taxpayers racing for the exits,” Walczak noted.

Undocumented immigrants would be allowed to enroll in Medi-Cal, California’s health program for the poor, according to a budget plan Newsom unveiled this month.

“We are positioned with this budget to be able to deliver on what we’ve been promoting: universal health care for all,” Newsom said at a news conference. “I’m proud to be here — I hope we see this replicated across the country.”

Exclusive: UN Funds Migrant Wave Flooding to the U.S.:

The U.S.-funded United Nations is providing cash to help job-seeking migrants trek up through South America, Central America, and Mexico, says Todd Bensman at the Center for Immigration Studies.

They’re giving money out at way-stations up and down the [migrant] trail … There’s a process [in Tapachula]: You get your Mexican [visa] papers, then you go to the UN building next door, get an appointment, and they interview you and look at your situation…  It’s not big money, and not all of them get it, but enough get it to sustain them so they don’t have to go home, and so they can go on to the next way station.

The funding helps poor migrants from Africa and Asia survive the deadly and brutal trek through South American, over the Darien Gap, through Central America, and into Mexico. Without the UN-provided money, many of the migrants risk going without food, shelter, or short-distance transport.

In December, Bensman described his examination of the UN’s funding system in an article for TheFederalist.com:  The public reporting as to how much the United States, through the State Department, gives IOM and how many got it is opaque at best. President Joe Biden’s 2022 budget calls for $10 billion in humanitarian assistance “to support vulnerable people abroad.” But there’s no detailed breakout.

Unsurprisingly, a wide variety of little-publicized polls do show deep and broad opposition to labor migration and the inflow of temporary contract workers into jobs sought by young U.S. graduates.  The opposition is growing, anti-establishment, multiracial, cross-sex, non-racist, class-based, bipartisan, rational, persistent, and recognizes the solidarity that Americans owe to each other.

Well … today is the big day they flip the switch and turn on the 5G towers near the airports … B-)

Someone posted in the comment section
The only thing I can think of when I hear 5g and airports is the scene in the movie cell when they hit the switch on the cellphones. “Cell" 2016 science fiction horror film with John Cusack and Samuel Jackson.

At Boston International Airport, Clay tries to board a flight, hoping to reconcile with his family. His cell phone battery dies, so he calls Sharon using a payphone. Suddenly an electronic signal (later dubbed "the pulse") is broadcast across mobile networks worldwide, turning cell phone users into rabid killers. Clay escapes the chaos in the terminal and meets a group of survivors in a subway car. The train's conductor, Tom McCourt, suggests abandoning the train and traveling through the tunnels. Clay agrees and, joined by a third man, attempts to escape the airport.

Near the tunnel's exit, their companion is slaughtered by an infected man, later dubbed a "phoner", and the two escape to the street above. Clay leads Tom to his apartment. That night, they are joined by Alice Maxwell, a teenage neighbor of Clay's who killed her mother in self-defense. All three decide to escape Boston. Heading north through New England to find Sharon and Johnny, the three acquire weapons from a house and are chased by a flock of phoners to a nearby river. Hiding from the infected, they observe the flock emitting mysterious signals from their mouths and then walking off as a group.
