Having spent a 1 1/2 yrs in Hawaii it is indeed beautiful.  But after spending some time in the deep south, I was amazed at how much prejudice there is in Hawaii.  Certain streets were not safe to walk down, at least on the main island.

People groups of every ilk constantly fought and hated one another.  The national attitude was that of a possession rather than a state of the union.  They had a disdain with anything to do with the U.S.

Their sacred god Pele, was in fact a Tahitian god, not native to Hawaii.  They closed themselves off from the rest of the world.  Talk about island fever, constant trade winds and storms, I was done with island life.  The bugs there were so big you could put a collar on them and call them pets!

The uneducated locals would work part time for about six months and then spend the rest of the year living on the beach.  Looks great in post cards.  Every year when the cane fields were burned, they would find the bodies of missing and killed people.

There were many strong believers there and the many of the locals were some of the most endearing and kind people I have ever met.  That said, I would never refer to Hawaii as paradise!

:mdrmdr:  “The bugs there were so big you could put a collar on them and call them pets!”  Very funny!  But do they have cockroaches that fly?   Myrtle Beach, SC sure has a very unique strain of that species. (Shivers).  Do they actually greet everyone at the airport with Aloha and hand out flowery leis?  Or is that only in the movies?

Thank you for painting a realistic picture of Hawaiian living ...trouble in paradise, for sure!   It makes Vermont living seem not half as bad after all ... well ... once you get past 6 months of bitter cold and the continual snow storms ((wop wop wop wop)) and lack of sunshine weather  ((wop, wop )) oh and a crazy politician named “Bernie” (((sad trombone going nuts ...)))

Evil can never coexist with each other. After a while, they always try to do each other in. They are chaotic by nature.

Very concerned for the Christians in Syria. Assad is far from perfect but he did protect the Christians. Erdogan is a very dangerous, bloodthirsty individual.
