Who Is Running Iran? — Report Exposes Power Struggle at Top of the Regime:

A fierce power struggle is gripping the top of Iran’s regime, with hardline security figures pushing to escalate the conflict with the United States as questions mount over who is actually wielding authority in the absence of the country’s unseen Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.

A sweeping New York Times report published Sunday details how those divisions erupted into open conflict after a hardline faction allegedly launched attacks on three commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz in July without the knowledge of President Masoud Pezeshkian, Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander Gen. Ahmad Vahidi, or Iran’s Supreme National Security Council — helping derail a U.S.-Iran agreement reached just weeks earlier.

The episode reportedly set off shouting matches, threats of resignation, and accusations of betrayal and treason within Tehran’s leadership, while exposing a more fundamental problem: Pezeshkian has questioned whether communications attributed to Khamenei — who has not appeared publicly since being badly wounded in the opening U.S.-Israeli strikes in February — are even authentic.

For now, however, the hardline faction advocating greater confrontation appears to have gained the upper hand, according to the report.

Iran is pushing Gulf states toward Israel: The secret talks and the forming coalition:

In recent weeks, a significant shift has been taking place behind the scenes in the Middle East: Gulf states are increasingly coming to the conclusion that Iran and its proxies can no longer be allowed to act with impunity, and that a joint regional effort is needed to confront them. For the first time, Arab states are showing willingness to take part in a form of U.S.-led coalition, and within that framework they are no longer ruling out cooperation with Israel.

One factor that contributed to the shift was Israeli assistance to the United Arab Emirates during the war. In the Gulf, this was seen as proof that Israel knows how to stand by its partners in times of crisis, and other countries have already begun sounding out Jerusalem to see whether they too could receive defensive assistance similar to that provided to the UAE.

Against the backdrop of these developments, U.S. Central Command, or CENTCOM, convened a rare meeting in Germany last week — the first of its kind since the outbreak of the war with Iran — attended by senior military commanders from the United States, Israel and a number of Arab countries. According to Axios, the participants discussed the war with Iran and the broader tensions in the region.

The meeting was organized by CENTCOM commander Adm. Brad Cooper. It offered a rare opportunity for commanders from Israel and Gulf states that do not have diplomatic relations with Israel to meet and exchange views on security developments. Alongside Cooper, the chiefs of staff of Israel, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Jordan and Egypt took part.

That cooperation was already evident during the war. Israel deployed the Iron Dome system in the United Arab Emirates, along with personnel who assisted in operating it, and also provided the UAE with real-time intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, assistance. At the same time, intelligence cooperation between Israel and other Arab states in the region also expanded during the war.

Clearer voices regarding the Iranian threat are also now being heard in the Arab countries that attended the meeting in Germany. A senior official from one of them said: “I don’t think any of our countries were under the illusion that Iran would not attack us. If the Iranian regime thinks that attacking U.S. bases on our territory will cause us to change our security arrangements with the United States and other members of the coalition, they are mistaken.”

Amit Segal: Saudis ‘don’t pray to Mecca, they pray to Jerusalem’

Amit Segal highlights the irony of Saudi Arabia reportedly seeking Israeli intelligence against the Houthis after years of publicly criticizing Israel.

Israeli political analyst Amit Segal commented on Wednesday on Saudi Arabia’s recent efforts to confront the Houthi threat, arguing that despite years of public criticism of Israel, Riyadh has ultimately turned to Israel for assistance.

In a video commentary posted on social media, Segal said it was "ironic" that Saudi Arabia had spent three years "bashing Israel and fueling antisemitism," but found itself without effective help from other partners when facing the Houthis in Yemen.

Segal referred to Saudi Arabia’s defense pact with Pakistan and Turkey, saying that when Riyadh sought assistance, neither provided the response it was looking for. He also noted that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman appealed to President Donald Trump for US military action against the Houthis, but Trump declined.

Segal’s remarks came amid reports that Israel has begun providing intelligence to Saudi Arabia through American mediation. According to a diplomat from one of the countries in the region, the Saudi request was first directed to the United States, which then relayed it to Israeli officials.

The contacts followed reports that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman called Trump twice to urge the United States to launch strikes against the Iran-backed Houthis as they advanced toward the Red Sea chokepoint. Trump rejected the request, while US officials said Washington would instead provide Saudi Arabia with intelligence on Houthi positions and targeting information.

UK Terror Police Investigate Potential Iranian Link over Suspected Bombing Plot on Base Used by U.S. Air Force:

British counterterrorism police are reportedly investigating possible links to Iran over a suspected bombing plot against a Royal Air Force base used by the United States during its military operations against the Islamist regime in Tehran.

UPDATE 1935: U.S. President Donald Trump hailed the arrests of the suspected terrorists as “fantastic”, saying that working with Britain was “amazing”.

The original story continues as follows…

Authorities declared a major incident on Sunday, evacuating 85 households near the RAF Fairford base in Gloucestershire after five men were arrested in the early hours of the morning on suspected explosives charges.

Police arrested them in three separate vans after a local resident near the British air base flagged them as suspicious. The five men were then further arrested on suspicion of preparing a terrorist attack.

According to a report from The Times of London, counterterrorism police detectives are investigating whether there was any Iranian involvement in the attack...
