"In what appears to be a freak accident, a Panama-flagged container ship called the Ever Given, owned by Evergreen Marine Corp., has run aground inside the Suez Canal, the critical artificially made shipping lane connecting the Red Sea with the Mediterranean.

Known as a critical chokepoint for the global oil trade, the Suez has become blocked in both directions thanks to the peculiar angle of what's been described as a 'megaship.'"

Its hard to believe that ship is STILL stranded in the Suez Canal. How is this possible in this day and age with all the technology?  And that name ... “Ever Given” ... its living up to its name ... ever means always ... “always given” grief for the other sailors.  Wouldn’t it be something if all the containers on the “Ever Given” Indian ship are all the crapola junk headed for the Dollar Stores?! :mdrmdr:   Meanwhile the other ships stuck in the queue are probably the desired perishable foods that will be overripe and rotten by the time they reach their destination.

Methinks this was done on purpose in order to drive up prices and further destroy the economy and impoverish people.

I wonder if they will forbid ships that size from entering the canal in the future and need to take the longer route?

Per Breitbart

Mission accomplished,” one villager Abdalla Ramadan said. “The whole world is relieved.

While the canal is now unblocked, it is unclear when traffic would return to normal. Analysts expect it could take at least another 10 days to clear the backlog on either end.

At least 367 vessels, carrying everything from crude oil to cattle, are backed up as they wait to traverse the canal. Dozens of others have taken the long, alternate route around the Cape of Good Hope at Africa’s southern tip — a 5,000-kilometer (3,100-mile) detour that costs ships hundreds of thousands of dollars in fuel and other costs.

If they have to go around Africa, I have heard that pirates are also a concern.
