They can step down, if they like. Probably for the man of sin.

Soon, we'll be stepping up!

You are correct!  I don't remember hearing anything about Putin or Queen Elizabeth, but definitely there were rumors about the Pope.

Can't find anything on Google (of course), but there are a few articles out there.

Found this:

"Pope Francis will step down before the end of the year, according to a source close to the Vatican, who said there was "no doubt" the Pontiff "will resign in 2020."t.co/Hy4aDmn9Qa

Good memory!  Interesting that was rumored; I thought he still has a job description to fulfill.

There’s a few articles out there ... who knows if they all had a change of mind?

Queen Elizabeth may soon retire to hand ‘reigns’ to Prince Charles
The New York Post

By Tamar Lapin
November 27, 2019

Queen Elizabeth II is apparently considering retiring in about 18 months so her son, Prince Charles, can assume the throne, reports in the UK said Wednesday.

The 93-year-old monarch is weighing stepping down around her 95th birthday, the same age that her husband, Prince Philip, withdrew from his royal duties, sources told the UK’s Express.

“Her Majesty is mindful of her age and wants to make sure when the time comes, the transition of the Crown is seamless,” a former senior member of the royal household told the outlet.

“I understand the queen has given the matter considerable thought and believes that, if she is still alive at 95, she will seriously consider passing the reign to Charles.”

The Sun also reported that there was “renewed talk” behind palace walls about the Queen stepping down when she turns 95.

“Planning for Charles to become king has been going on for some time,” a royal source told the outlet. “A transition is plainly already underway.”

The queen — the world’s longest-reigning current monarch — won’t be able to officially retire without abdicating her throne, according to royal succession rules.

But she would be able to stop all of her royal duties if her health were to become a concern.

Vladimir Putin plans to step down next year amid health concerns, report claims

The New York Post

Vladimir Putin is planning to step down next year as speculation swirls in Russia that the longtime president may have Parkinson’s disease, a report said Thursday.

Moscow political scientist Valery Solovei told the Sun that the Russian strongman’s 37-year-old girlfriend, Alina Kabaeva, and his two daughters are pushing him to leave office.

“There is a family, it has a great influence on him. He intends to make public his handover plans in January,” Solovei told the news outlet.

Solovei also suggested Putin may be suffering from Parkinson’s as the president has been seen recently exhibiting symptoms of the disease.

Putin recently appeared to be in agony while appearing to constantly shift his legs, according to footage reviewed by an observer, the Sun reported.

Reviewed footage also appeared to show his fingers twitching as he held a cup that possibly contained medicine, the report said.

Speculation on Putin’s possible departure comes as Russian lawmakers are considering legislationproposed by the president that would grant ex-presidents lifetime immunity from criminal prosecution.
