Just thinking (that could be dangerous) . . ~~ . . today while jogging on the trail (my prayer closet) I was contemplating the Infiniteness of our God and His Name: “I AM that I AM, that is My Name”, announces our God . . . . ~ ~ ~~ here we are on earth living one day at a time, limited by earth's gravity as well ~~ and we think of tomorrow yet to be . . . And, then there is our God Who lives outside of time, hence: the Great "I AM" has revealed to us His Name as present . . ~ ~ ~ He is who He is never ending, always in the 'present' . . He never had a beginning ~ ~ and then I thought of my mother who lives in Heaven, where time doesn’t exist for her anymore ~ ~ . . I felt overwhelmed realizing her joy, without limitation ~ ~ seemingly, at a mere thought she can be on the outskirts of Paradise, yet at the next ‘instant’ she’s at the gates of the Heavenly Jerusalem, . . Always in the present, assuredly she is praising our Lord at the altar of God’s Heavenly Throne, too , ~~. ~ ~ How can that be, which was first? . .no time there ~~ . God gave us imaginations, ~ ~ wow, what must Heaven be like so unimaginably epic with joy where there is only the present in the fullness of such glorified living ~ Hey Sis! https://www.gotquestions.org/time-in-heaven.html The passage of time in heaven is an interesting question. I certain cannot speak authoritatively on it, yet I am inclined to think it does exist. There is a sequence of events in heaven, whether or not it flows in the same way as it does here on earth. God is "omni-present" as well as "omni-temporal." He can relate to us in our dimension of time and space, but is not confined to it. I don't think we will share that attribute. Perhaps our perception of the passage of time will be altered, and we won't have the same awareness of time going by. The souls under the altar in Revelation surely sounded impatient in their wait for God to act, so there is memory of our former life in that state. I don't think anything painful will spoil our experience of heaven, though. The Tree of Life bears a different fruit each month in the New Jerusalem, also. That is a marker of time. God is non-material, and would necessarily be outside of time and space, as time is one of the properties of creation, and is affected by gravity. Whew, that's really above my head. Right now its is so hard to comprehend the eternal side. We can only imagine ... and promised in I Cor 2:9 “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.” As David just pointed out that Tree of Life will produce a different delicious tasting fruit every month! Woohoo! Showing time still exist ... perhaps heaven will have a lot of BIG Ben clocks like in London and they will chime beautiful music on the hour and we will be making plans to meet with other saints by use of the clock? But if we are late for an appointment it will be no big deal since we have all the time in the world ... ah eternity ... never ending ... never growing old ... never being sick ... no bothers. Thanks Donna, good to hear from you. Well said David! Indeed the timelessness of God is certainly highlighted by that name: I Am, that I Am. For me it also speaks of His sovereignty. It also alludes to the fact that in any relationship we might have with our creator, it must be on His terms, being who He is! Out of the myriad of names that help to identify God, I Am that I Am makes no apologies for who He is at any given moment in time! TR As Yohanan mentioned, Donna's post does provoke such colorful imagery of Heaven. Puts one in a warm, contemplative mood, doesn't it? As far as time in Heaven, I lean toward David's position-- that there will likely be because there will be sequences of events. Yes, the saints under the throne of God were asking when God would avenge them. So they were aware of the passing of time. And in Revelation, also, there was silence in Heaven for about a half hour. So time probably is measured. Maybe part of the confusion lies in our use of the word "eternity" to sometimes mean "timelessness." I think these are two completely divergent concepts. "Eternity", to me, means time without end or limitless time. It embraces the concept of time. "Timelessness" means the absence of time. Donna, What a wonderful contemplation..a verse I memorized recently fits this well. Psalm 46:10 “Be still and know that I AM God, I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth. Our Christmas gift this year was a family trip to see the Ark and creation Museum in KY. The visit to the Ark certainly puts in perspective the great magnitude of an almighty God, who laid on one mans heart the plans (incredible engineering, husbandry, & creativity) to feed, house, and care for those He saved. The great I AM has a whole universe and more awaiting His children, beyond our understanding. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful and peaceful contemplation :prayer-hands: Also well said Kenneth! I fully agree. As the song says, no matter how many days transpire in Heaven, we'll have no less days to enjoy Him! TR
Your words invoke such strong imagery in my mind! I was visiting with my dad yesterday and the very topic of God’s name I AM came up in discussion so your post struck a chord with me. To dwell on the infinite beauty and holiness of our Father in Heaven is something that I find causes “time” to stand still. It will be interesting when we see clearly the realm of Heaven and have a better understanding of these things. Since God is timeless do we actually enter into that timeless place when we are fully engaged in the worship and fellowship with our Father? Will certainly be interesting to find out.
