An executive order signed by President Trump on Monday states that the United States is withdrawing from the World Health Organisation (“WHO”) due to the organisation’s mishandling of the covid-19 pandemic, failure to adopt reforms, demands for unfairly onerous payments and lack of independence from member states’ influence. The US will pause the transfer of funds, recall personnel and identify alternative partners to assume necessary activities previously undertaken by WHO.
