Texas will install a military base in the border city of Eagle Pass to curb the flow of illegal migrants allowed in by the Biden administration, Gov. Greg Abbott (R) announced at a press conference Friday. The Texas Military Department is set to construct a Forward Operating Base on 80 acres of land along the Rio Grande that will house up to 1,800 Texas National Guard soldiers, with the ability to accommodate an additional 500, Abbott’s office stated. Abbott’s administration explained that the base will be equipped to “respond to the open border chaos created by the Biden Administration, complete with recreational, chaplaincy, medical and psychological health facilities. “Texas is expanding our border security capabilities by building a new Texas Military Department base camp to increase and improve border security operations in this area,” Abbott said at the press conference. “This will increase the ability for a larger number of Texas Military Department soldiers in Eagle Pass to operate more effectively and efficiently.” If the shoe fits, wear it. That is the message former president Donald Trump hopes his supporters will heed after he launched an exclusive, signature brand of shoes Saturday at “Sneaker Con,” modestly self-titled as “The Greatest Sneaker Show on Earth.” AP reports the shoes, shiny gold high tops with an American flag detail on the back, are being sold as “Never Surrender High-Tops” for $399 on a new website that also sells other Trump-branded shoes and “Victory47” cologne and perfume for $99 a bottle. The website outlines it is run by CIC Ventures LLC, a company Trump reported owning in his 2023 financial disclosure. The website states the new venture “is not political and has nothing to do with any political campaign,” according to the AP report. While she is right about the “affordability crisis” facing Americans, her solution is ludicrous. Lee proposes a minimum wage of $50 per hour. Over the three years of the Biden presidency, overall inflation has soared 17.9%, easily outpacing the 12.8% increase in weekly earnings in that period. Thus, “real buying power” is decreasing and hard-working Americans are falling behind. In some areas, the price increases are even more dramatic. For example, gasoline prices have skyrocketed 33.1%, household energy costs are 29.5% higher, while grocery prices have increased 21.0%. With such an economic nightmare, it is no surprise that 58% of Americans disapprove of Bidenomics. ....an analysis of the labor market indicates there are 183,000 fewer American-born workers today than in the last quarter of 2019, prior to the onset of the pandemic. The job growth of 2.7 million since that time has been entirely due to the increase in foreign-born (both illegal and legal) workers. Another troubling statistic is that only 75.6% of American-born men without a college degree are in the labor force. This participation rate is lower than the pre-pandemic levels and has been steadily dropping since the 90% level in the 1960’s. Even fast food is no longer affordable for millions of Americans. A recent news story indicated that the cost of a “Big Mac combo meal” at some McDonald’s restaurants had jumped to $18.00. In the last year, the cost of automobile insurance has increased 20.6% for automobile insurance. It is not much better for homeowners’ insurance as there have been “double digit” increases in 25 states. Sadly, in some areas, especially those hit by recent natural disasters, homeowners’ insurance is not available at all. Biden coupled his extreme “climate agenda” with massive federal spending, such as the $1.9 trillion “American Rescue Plan” in 2021. The state of Michigan has decided that the best option is to ask citizens to figure it out. Seriously. On Feb. 12, the Office of Global Michigan — part of the state Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity — released a statement encouraging residents to volunteer to “sponsor” refugees. “Sponsors are expected to provide support to newly arrived refugees for 90 days through acts such as greeting refugee newcomers at the airport, securing and preparing initial housing, enrolling children in school and helping adults find employment,” the statement said. Last year, Massachusetts Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll came right out with it, asking residents, “If you have an extra room or suite in your home, please consider hosting a family. Housing and shelter is our most pressing need.” It’s difficult to imagine many people jumping at the chance to babysit illegal immigrants they’ve never met. For one thing, the reward appears to be woke brownie points, which, for most people, isn’t much in the way of compensation. From booting children from their rec centers and schools to kicking elderly veterans out of nursing homes, the actions taken by blue state governments aren’t calculated to make residents willing to open their homes and wallets to illegal aliens. Moreover, stories come out almost daily about migrants illegally crossing the border and committing heinous crimes against American citizens. President Joe Biden released a new video on Tuesday attacking Donald Trump and Republicans. Unfortunately for the president, the video generated scrutiny for all the wrong reasons. In the video, Biden attacks Trump for his remarks critical of NATO and claims Trump and Republicans "refuse" to hold Russian President Vladimir Putin "accountable" for the death of Alexei Navalny because they oppose sending more taxpayer money to Ukraine without first addressing domestic priorities, like the border crisis. First, the video, which includes an on-screen caption of Biden's words, contains several spelling errors. The word "strength" is misspelled. Navalny's first name is misspelled. And, at one point, the caption completely omits one of Biden's words. Second, the video contains numerous edits — more than two dozen, in fact. Moreover, Biden does not appear to speak for more than six seconds at a time without a cut. "So when you've worked on the producing end as I did in my former life, some things are painfully easy to spot when the post-edit is complete," media expert Joe Concha explained. "In this case, I counted 28 cuts in this 2-minute video. 28. In something this short, *maybe* you do 5-6 cuts max." The significant number of edits suggests that, even with teleprompter help, Biden had difficulty reading his script, thus bringing more attention to his age and concerns about his mental acuity.
