FDA recalls 48,000 CANS of Diet Coke, Sprite and Fanta because they may contain 'foreign material'

Nearly 2,000 cases - the equivalent of about 48,000 cans - sold in Alabama, Mississippi and Florida since November 6 were affected.

Affected flavors included Berry Punch, Strawberry Lemonade, and Fruit Punch. 

The FDA classified this new recall as a Class II, meaning that it indicates a circumstance in which a 'violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences.'

Consumers have been urged to throw out any affected cans and not drink from them. 

This is the second time Coca-Cola has recalled products due to foreign material. In 2021, the company recalled 7,000 cases of Minute Maid juice for containing objects such as washers or bolts.

Chinese Mourners Use AI to Create Avatars of the Dead:

The latest unsettling high-tech craze in China involves bereaved families hiring artificial intelligence (AI) firms to create audiovisual simulations of the dearly departed.

Barron’s reported on Wednesday that some Chinese mourners cobble together avatars of the dead themselves, hiring various companies to reproduce their voices and digital likenesses, while others turn to replication firms that boast of creating eerily accurate digital avatars of the dead with only a few minutes of voice recordings and a handful of photographs.

Zhang said his company charges up to $2,800 to create an avatar within 20 days. Some of the “ghost bots” are automated and interactive. In other cases, a Super Brain staffer can digitally alter their face and voice to appear as a lost loved one and hold a video call with grieving families.

Zhang’s company can also create avatars of people who are not dead, such as estranged spouses and children who live far away, which might prove even more controversial than creating digital clones of the dead.

‘Hamas Members’ Arrested in Germany, Denmark, Netherlands Over Suspected Plot to Attack Jewish Community in Europe:

A plot to unearth a buried Hamas weapons cache in Germany and launch terror attacks against the European Jewish community has ended in seven arrests across the continent, Mossad says.

Seven people have been arrested, security services including Mossad stated on Thursday afternoon, with three in Germany, three in Denmark, and one in the Netherlands taken into custody.

The goal of the Hamas plot was “to kill innocent civilians on European soil… to attack Israeli, Jewish and Western targets at any price”, they said.

Jewish Alumni Group: Harvard Aims to Reduce Jews to 1-2% of Student Population:

Harvard University may intend to reduce the proportion of Jews in its student body to 1-2%, roughly the Jewish share of the U.S. population, according to a newsletter published by a new group of Jewish alumni of the institution.

In a “December update,” the newly-formed “Harvard Jewish Alumni Alliance” reported Friday (original emphasis):

We have seen data that suggest that the Jewish population at the College has declined from 20-25% in the 1990s-2000s to 5-7% today, but that almost all that decline occurred in recent years. We have heard from multiple sources at the University that it is the official, undisclosed policy of the school to drive down Jewish admissions to 1-2% of the student body, proportionately matching Jews’ percentage of the U.S. population. This violates basic meritocratic principles and recent Supreme Court jurisprudence. Like the shameful Jewish quotas in Harvard’s past, current limits mimic the Soviets, who used similar tactics to limit Jewish access to education.

The idea of imposing quotas on Jews has ideological roots in Nazi Germany.

One Killed, 26 Injured After Local Politician Throws Grenades at Ukrainian Council Meeting:

A local government deputy set off a series of grenades at a council meeting in western Ukraine, killing at least one and leaving several in critical condition among 26 injured.

A handful of grenades were thrown into a local government meeting at Keretsky in Transcarpathia (Zakarpattia) on Friday morning, a region in the west of the nation far from the front lines. Ukrainian government media outlet Ukrinform relays that 26 people were injured, six of them “gravely”, and one person was killed.

The meeting was being recorded and video footage of the attack has been released by police, showing a man in a dark coat entering the packed council room as the meeting was ongoing and blocking the door while listening to proceedings briefly. As an animated discussion continues the man interjects, shouting at the officers sitting at the head table while pulling the grenades out of his coat pocket.
