China wants more than anything to expand it's influence in the Pacific Ocean If Taiwan were to become part of China this would change. China’s navy would no longer be hemmed in. China would be able to extend its reach to the “second island chain ofGuam, the Marianas and some other small islands in the central Pacific. But more importantly, from Taiwan, China's submarines could get to our (US) west coast without being detected
