I.e., weigh in concerning Dr Woods' YouTube above at markers 9:00 to 10:30...?  Before and after too...

Both of those chapters in my opinion can be entirely about the Jews and Israel. The only verses that throw me off are the verses that talk about the suddenness and surprise catching them unaware as they are going about normal daily life....planting, eating, drinking, marrying etc.....now this could also be talking to the Jews and they are caught unaware when the Rapture happens before the start of the trib, but it just doesn't seem like they would be caught totally by surprise at the second coming since the 144K Jews have been preaching, the angels preaching in the air, the 2 witnesses who preach for 3.5 years....and also including all the global devastation from the judgments from the trib. When looking at how progressively horrible it will be....I just can't imagine that anyone would be surprised at the end of the trib with the return of Jesus, or that any kind of normal life would be going on, especially weddings when it's dark all the time

Andy Woods and Jack Hibbs are my two favorite pastors, and both hold that the church is not in these chapters at all.

I understand some of the arguments on each side, but I lean towards Jesus answering the questions He was asked here, just not necessarily in order.  Contrary to what some may think, viewing the one taken, one left as the Rapture does not invalidate the pre-trib view.

I too struggle with the sense of normalcy going on in that passage.  I don't think there's any way that can describe events at the end of the trib.  And no man knows the day or hour... well, Daniel gave a number of days after the AOD.  People have tried to explain that away by darkness covering the land and not knowing what day it us, but I think that's a weak argument.

Then there was this article:   https://www.raptureready.com/2022/02/06/the-paralambano-of-matthew-2440-41-luke-1734-36-by-mark-a-becker/

I don't know Greek, but the case made here seems persuasive.

So I'm not sold either way, but leaning.  I think we may find out soon, and whichever way is correct won't make much difference to me -- it doesn't change my beliefs or very clouded understanding of the big picture.

My take on it:

24:1 & 24:2 refers to the temple destruction of 70AD.

24:3 – 24:7 items mentioned could fit both the 70AD time frame and the future pre-tribulation time frame. Verse 24:8 labels them as birth pangs which is most closely associated with the pre-tribulation time frame.

24:9 – 24:13 these again could apply to both the 70AD time frame and the future pre-tribulation time frame. Verse 24:14 being able to reach the whole world is an event that only seems achievable in the current pre-tribulation era.

24:15 – 24:21 describe events that could be for both 70AD and pre-tribulation but verse 24:21 says it is the worst time ever and this would place these verses in the tribulation time frame.

24:22 – to the end of chapter 25  are defiantly for the tribulation time of Jacob’s trouble through to the judgment of the nations.

I read the two chapters with fresh eyes.

IMHO:

Matthew 24

1-8 is Pre Trib.

9-14 is Trib.

15-31 is Great Trib.

32-35 (Fig Tree) is Trib and Great Trib.

36-45 Can be applicable to all time.

Matthew 25

1-13 Pre Trib.

14-29 All time

31-45 Great Trib.

Here is what I wrote. I do agree that Matthew Chapters 24 and 25 are not directed at the Church and you should not base your Rapture positional teaching because of verses found in it. That includes the verses about the Olive tree, as well.

One could certain say that the Destruction of the Temple in 70 AD was not about the Church but it did occur during the Church Age. That is why I labeled it Pre Trib. It happened before the Tribulation, obviously.

Verses 36-45, I am on the fence about. Will have to contemplate on them more.

Matthew 25:14-29 seem to be applicable to the Church Age as well as the Tribulation. People will be rewarded for their faithful service to Jesus. That is why I stated it could be applicable to all time.

If it doesn't apply to the Church Age then we will not rule and reign with Jesus on the earth during the Millenium but that will be reserved for Tribulation believers only.

So, speaking of Church Age believers (ie us), will we rule and reign only in Eternity then???

That's my question for you, Dan. Smile
BTW, thank you for still tackling this even after your stroke. May the Lord doubly bless your efforts and give you renewed strength in studying His word. Smile

Thank you so much for your input (again) also, Arthur.  Everyone's input is interesting and when my brain clears up and in can once again cruise along in my mind, (another hoped-for miracle), I hope to highlight other segments of Dr Woods' discourses in response to y'all.  Maybe we'll be blessed with a rapture before that. :yahoo:

As I said, on Wednesday this week I instantly felt compassion toward the poor frog whose brain I scrambled during sixth grade science class.
