Any thoughts on why the word “departure” from the original manuscripts the Bible translators goofed up with writing “apostasy” “fallen away” or “rebellion”?   Do you think they didn’t believe in the pre-trib rapture or thought the 2nd coming and rapture were the same event?  Or could it be departure is not a word in one language so it got switched out and the others just followed suit by copying that one translator’s mistake without double checking the original text?

Also “those who refused to received the love of the truth, that they might be saved ... God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie”.   Does that mean everyone who heard the Gospel right now and procrastinated and the rapture happens ... do they fall into this category?  Are the tribulation believers only going to be those who hear the Gospel for the first time?

A large collection of scholars guessing can rarely agree.  Probably a compromise rendering.  I believe that at the end of someone's life, they either recieved the truth of Christ or not!  Sealed by God or not!  TR

Geri —- I agree with TR — you may get a variety of rational for this change, one way I look at scripture when studying is... who was speaking(Paul), what was the teaching focused on (rapture & removal of the restrainer), who was he speaking to (Thessalonian believers) and what would they understand for their culture (the end of the church age).

One of the roots of the Greek word apostasia in 2 Thes. 2:3 is aphistemi. It could mean to withdraw, depart, or remove, in addition to falling away. Before the King James was published, departure was the accepted translation for apostasia. Another related word is apostasion. It’s the masculine form of apostasia, and is the Greek word for divorce. Since all three of these words convey the idea of a change of mind, it appears that falling was the preferred term for those that translated into the 1611 version.
as I mentioned, falling away does not fit the other perimeters of who spoke, what they wanted to covey, to whom needed to gear it, and what they would have understood. I personally do not hold to this translation because of such incorrect changing of scripture. I do appreciate the effort to get scripture into the hands of the common man of the time.

Second, there are individuals who have heard the gospel, understood repentance and the Grace offered and made a decision to refuse God’s Grace. These individuals (in my opinion) will not get saved. Look at the 100 years of the building of the ark, look at Israel under Joshua taking out towns in the promised land that had reject God and continued in Pagan ritual. God is long suffering and would that no one should perish, but must remain true to His righteousness. There are folks who hear the gospel and it has not been understood, I believe (my opinion) they may get saved during the tribulation (look at Nineva when Jonah preached). There are a multitude of people saved during the tribulation—- some people literately need a brick wall to fall on them to wake them up to the truth. They will live in the worse time in human history, but it will be a short life as they are to be martyred.
I highly recommend praying consistently to the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into His field .... Speak when you have opportunity, trust God to do His work. There are people coming to Christ n this day because of COVID, people have been forced to think about their own mortality (what was intended for evil is being used for good). This two will quickly pass, we have a limited window to snatch souls away from evil. We are leaving very soon, JD Faraq hit it spot on today. Many are speaking now of the time is short. I have been able to visit at least five church services on Sundays since closure and more are speaking truth and gospel, so time is short, it is urgent that we pray for the lost —- :prayer-hands:

Amen Tammie!  In the end, the Holy Spirit will seal whom He will!  For whatever reasons, those who have previously rejected the gospel or simply not taken salvation seriously will be given yet one last chance to rethink their position!  Salvation is more than a get out of jail free card, but must also include investment of the heart!  TR
