‘The people of Israel are moved to tears’: Nation rejoices at return of hero Ran Gvili, last Israeli hostage in Gaza:

“Ran Gvili, our hero, has returned home after 843 days,” Israeli President Isaac Herzog declared on Monday afternoon, giving a voice to the simultaneously sad and joyous mood in Israel after the military announced that Gvili’s body had been discovered in a cemetery in Gaza.

“Ran, a special forces police officer, went out to battle heroically in order to save lives on October 7th. Finally, Ran has been returned home to his family in Israel. The entire people of Israel are moved to tears. Our hearts are with his parents, Talik and Itzik, who fought a noble and heroic battle to bring him home,” Herzog said.

“After many difficult years, for the first time since 2014, there are no Israeli citizens held hostage in Gaza. An entire nation prayed and waited for this moment.”

Soon after the announcement, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the Knesset, declaring, “We have returned Ran Gvili, of blessed memory, a hero of Israel. There are no more hostages in Gaza.”

Trump & Netanyahu agree that Hamas must disarm before Gaza reconstruction after return of last Israeli hostage Gvili:

U.S. President Donald Trump and Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed that the next step in the Gaza Strip must be the disarmament of Hamas, following the return of the remains of Ran Gvili, the last Israeli hostage in Gaza, on Monday.

In an interview with Axios’ Barak Ravid, President Trump spoke of the difficulty in finding Gvili’s body, saying the terror group “had to go through hundreds of bodies.” Hamas “worked very hard” to return the body of Israel’s final deceased hostage, Ran Gvili, President Trump said. “They were working with Israel on it. You can imagine how hard it was.” 

After praising Hamas’ cooperation in the operation, Trump also said that it is time for Hamas to disarm as specified in the peace deal. “Now we have to disarm Hamas like they promised," Trump stated. 

...there is significant skepticism in Israel regarding Hamas’ willingness to disarm. 

“The next phase is not reconstruction,” Netanyahu emphasized, speaking at a special Knesset session, “The next phase is disarming Hamas and the demilitarization of the Gaza Strip.” He noted that Israel wants “to advance this phase, and not to delay it.” 

However, he also repeated his claim that the disarmament would occur, warning, “It will happen the easy way or the hard way. But it will happen.”
