I asked the Lord to give me something fresh and interesting to post about. Literally moments later, I had the thought to investigate the foundation stones of the New Jerusalem. I learned something I never heard before, and I hope you will also find it fascinating. https://www.christianevidence.net/2018/09/the-12-foundation-stones-in-new.html
In the past century, it has been discovered that gems can be classified as either anisotropic or isotropic, and only recently have scientists discovered cross polarized light, which can be used to identify whether a gem is anisotropic or isotropic. When viewed in crossed-polarised light (similar to “pure” light), anisotropic stones produce a colourful array- reflecting all the colours of the rainbow, whereas isotropic stones lose all of their colour and appear black. It's interesting that, in Revelation chapter 21, there are 12 gems mentioned to be inlaid for decoration of the New Jerusalem, and ALL of these 12 gems are anisotropic gems, i.e., gems that can show colourful patterns under pure light... I used to wonder why we were given the names of the stones when the colors of them are greatly subject to variations. It seems that the information we are told is much richer than simply being told a specific color; the gems are chosen because they are beautiful in polarized or pure light. https://www.gemstonebuzz.com/education/isotropic-single-refracting-anisotropic-doubly-refracting/ Anisotropic or Doubly Refracting (D.R.): A ray of light which enters an anisotropic substance is not only bent or refracted, but it is also broken or split into two rays, each of which travels with a different velocity and hence has a different Refractive Index. What I did not expect to find is mathematical evidence supporting the Divine authorship of Revelation, as the concept of anisotropic gems was unknown until recently, and all 12 stones listed are such. A further analysis of probability of the 12 chosen gems in the Book of Revelation suggested only anisotropic gems (show colorful pattern under pure light). There are around 4000 naturally available gems and a very large portion of these gems are too rare to be used. For the usual ones, there are 143 gems, 109 gems are anisotropic and 34 are isotropic. So, the probability of Book of Revelation mentioning all the 12 gems be only anisotropic gems are 109/143 x 108 / 142 x 107 / 141... x 98 / 132 or 3.3% chance which is very very low. The above analysis assumes all gems have same probability be included. However, in fact, this is not the case, diamond, ruby, garnet group of gems (these are isotropic gems which do not show colorful pattern under pure light) are very very common gems. As a result, the actual probability is much much lower than 3.3% for naming all the 12 gems are all anisotropic gems in the Book of Revelation. Further proof of our glorious God’s design and perfect creation. Thank you for sharing this David! :dieu: What an awesome and glorious God we love and serve! Thanks David. Historically, men have enjoyed gems and gemstones just as much if not more than women. Over the years, I have been sorely disappointed that selection in men's jewelry, rings in particular which has been sorely lacking. Even in wedding bands, most stores only carry a handful, if that to choose from! Here in America anyway, fine jewelry and gems have been kept from men. Or so it seems to me. Signet rings, onyx, and diamonds are about all that's fashioned for men. Why? I'm also aware that to top diamond producers have an overwhelming glut of diamonds and control the release of them to keep the prices high. Indeed looking forward to a new robe, a ring and a wedding feast! TR its going to be so beautiful. the very finest of what has been made here cannot compare to the city made by God Maranatha! I have seen that before. Amazing how the properties of the gems were not known until very recently, many centuries after Jesus gave the revelation to John. Also, the advertisement that says Diamonds are forever simply isn’t true. Forget the marketing strategies behind the diamond industry. The color, shape and uniqueness of everything the Lord has created sells itself, IMHO. TR

Could it be possible that God, in choosing the stones for the foundation of the new temple, deliberately avoided stones that would lose their colour and instead chose stones that disperse light to produce brilliant rainbow effects?
...
In addition, every [ ] ray of light is differently refracted for different colours of light.
