Ascension day looms large before us!

May 13/14th will coincide with with Istael's new birth as a nation!

It could imitate the time that Christ ascended!

Well placed in mid May before summer arrives!

Can't come soon enough!

Based on the sighting of the new moon on March 14 at Jerusalem then March 15 being Nisan 1 and Passover on Nisan 14 which was March 28, a Sunday, then the count would begin on the next Sunday, April 4. Count off 40 days to Ascension Day and we're at May 14.

This is based on the count beginning on the day after the weekly Sabbath that follows Passover which would always be a Sunday. Other Jews start the count on the day after the beginning of Unleavened Bread saying that it is the Sabbath that is being referred to and not the Saturday weekly Sabbath.

Now I don't know if this is the correct way to figure it; but I figured it by the third day after Nisan 15 which is the day Jesus was crucified and then adding 40 days...even though we celebrate Resurrection Sunday on the first day of the week when He rose from the grave....it was still Nisan 17/18 depending on how the three days is counted. The apostles saw Jesus for 40 days after this which falls on Iyar 27/28 and this year that is May 10/11 , here's to hoping!

My calendar from Our Daily Bread shows Ascension Day on May 13th ... not sure how they came up with that date.    But I’m not picky ... if Ascension Day is the surprise flight home ... the sooner the better.
