I would think there would be animal sacrifices as it is implied in Ezekiel chapters 40-48. I also know that this is a difficult subject to understand as to why there would be animal sacrifices on the earth when Jesus is ruling and reigning. The population of the Millennium earth will have no Satan to tempt them (until a short time at the end) and a nearly perfect environment. Their biggest problem will be their mortal human nature, which will have to be ruled with a rod of iron. Sacrifices never had the power to take away sin; they were simply a teaching device pointing forward to the Lamb of God. I surmise that they will have the same purpose during the thousand years, pointing backward to the cross. That does indeed seem strange to us. Yet we do not know much about the educational or social conditions of that era. The survivors would surely pass along to their descendants some memories of the time before they were born. It might be that these sacrifices will be the primary exposure they have to the horror and ugliness of sin, and the serious consequences required to reconcile one to God, that is, the death of the innocent Lamb of God. I can only go by what the text literally says in describing that period, even if I don't understand why it tells us they will do that. Death will be very rare in the Millennium. I would think that the animal sacrifices would be a good reminder of what Jesus did for us for the mortal people living at that time. We are constantly surrounded by death in our world. I usually see dead animals on the road every day. I can open up the newspaper and turn to the obituaries. The media is obsessed with death. This won't be the case in the Millennium. So, just as the animal sacrifices in the Old Testament pointed forward to the once for all sacrifice of Jesus Christ, the animal sacrifices in the Millennium will point back to the once for all sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
