We were at a cafe' in Golden about 16 miles SSW of the fire's breakout. Exiting Kolleen and I couldn't walk about 120' to the car because the wind was too strong. We had a hard time just struggling to get to the corner of the building, where for three or four minutes we stood, hanging on to the stone wall, trying to figure out / agree on / what to do next. Kolleen had to hang onto the building and inch her way back into the cafe, while I braced myself with my cane, even having to lean a little backwards into the wind as I ventured out to the car. I had never experienced wind that strong, and I'm pretty old! I prayed all the way to the car and happily was delivered without falling. Boulder, CO is notorious for high winds, not unusually reaching gusting at 100 MPH as reported yesterday. Louisville and Superior where the 580 structures suffered burning are to the east and south a little from Boulder. We headed south slowly on the freeway toward home, being buffeted the whole way, and going further away from Boulder. About 3/4 of the way home, we crept with traffic past a very long WalMart semi tractor truck lying on its side and blocking all three lanes in the opposite direction. From a higher point on the way home we saw towering billows of smoke pouring upward and thrust for miles eastward. We felt dreadful for those people who we knew were in trouble and losing everything in those panicked moments, and prayed for God's mercy. Making the wind problem worse, we've had essentially zero moisture for months. The grasslands are quite dry. I can't believe with wind that high, there was any chance of extinguishing anything. Thanks for asking, Geri. Pray for mercy and help for those who were displaced and lost everything. PS - Probably only someone weird would wonder this, but for a brief moment yesterday I thought: had we had been Raptured just then, coming out of that cafe, there was no way we could have gone straight up. With wind like that, the angels would have to compensate for our serious lateral displacement just to find us. Hang in there! May be a portent of things to come, letting us know we’re in for a bumpy ride this year! Think this thread will need to reflect 2022! God, I hate saying that! Still, let us continue in a spirit of thanksgiving and anticipation! Keep looking for some fiery chariots! TR The restaurant doors had to be push-forced open by help when we left. I felt that wind was going to toss me over, plus how odd, I couldn't catch my breath for the strength of it interfering with my breathing!! Going back, I could not open the restaurant doors to get back in. An employee was helping people with that. I went through to the back of the building which lessened the force of the wind, and Dan picked me up there. On the freeway we were jostled. There was a big flying dust storm aways ahead of us, and we saw water sprays in the air off a small lake. And the growing smoke behind us beyond Boulder. Aside from the semi, we saw panels of something on the roadway, and another cars top storage had blown off. The people were on the freeway for yards, trying to retrieve their ski's strewn all over. I can't imagine being in a tornado! But yes, please pray that the at least 580 home owners, who may not have yet, will come to Christ, and that He will be Lord in whatever restoration there can be for all the devastated people. Praying for His mercies each day of this New Year! TR
