I read the letter from HR. It goes to length about explaining that we have a public health emergency and people need to do their part...................... she also said I have to talk to them through the union. Lawyers will not be acknowledged or responded to. Wow! It might not have made much difference but now I regret listening to the attorney and just threatening with legal action. The notice of liability proof that we have no public health emergency. Notice of liabilities are better. My blood was boiling, I responded quickly, cc'ing the guy in the union (she cc'd him too) that I am not sure I want to communicate to them through the union cause I have doubts that they are here to help us. I also asked her: did I understand you correctly. Are you now telling me I am not allowed to get legal representation. I emailed my manager requesting a sick day off. shut down my computer and cell phone although there is no shortage of people who need my help now. Prayers for you, Heidi! :prayer-hands: Thank you Yohanan. Praying for you too. would someone know the answer to this question: We have an English language school for immigrants. There are students who are low level English and feel lost in class. they are not improving and they are getting upset because they need to have intermediate level English to apply for citizenship and be able to register with an employment agency. I am really good working with lower levels. I can get them to intermediate level English relatively fast. Should I call some of my clients and tell them if they know someone like that to refer them to me? I will tell them I can't take students already in our school but if they know someone not in our school and in that situation................... I don't want trouble with work. Anyone know what to do or any advice? thanks Heidi, have you ever looked at the online training for students wanting to learn English? I’m not sure of the names but it appears to pay well but the hours may be very different. thank you so much Tammie. I will look into it. . I emailed a lady from my meetup group. From something she said, I thought she is not into the vax. She said my timing is uncanny. a few other people don't like this vax either and there is an online meeting tonight on zoom about it. I said "what tyranny" in the title of the thread but a couple of people told me that if you have a union, the employer would not respond to representations from attorneys. I mentioned that the lady from Action4Canada told me that other professionals are being coerced by the government, but I am disgusted with the 3 attorneys who told me my employer has the right to mandate a vax. Things felt somehow more suffocating and hopeless. I regret not giving a notice of liability to HR. They were saying on Action4Canada that employers are having problems with these notices. They don't see any loopholes in them. the notice of liability starts with a proof that there is no emergency and no pandemic. I should have known to use that. The letter that I got back from HR when I sent a simple email threatening to seek legal action if my job is threatened started with that we are in a pandemic.......... I've been scared about how I am going to fend for myself come January. It does not help when people say: "Oh, no, what are you going to do?" I can't hear things like that, it makes the situation feel more overwhelming. A friend has been overseas for almost 9 years, he keeps saying he is coming back but never did. I stopped believing him. My sister told me a few months ago that he will be back in September. I was surprised he never mentioned it to me. when I asked he said he is coming back. He also said his sister is not doing well so he is coming back. However, he got delayed. I don't want to tell him I will be losing my job. I am worried he might encourage me not to worry about the vax. However, I texted him asking him that if is going to be living in Montreal, should I move to Montreal too? He did not text back asking me what about my job. He said: "sure, we can be in Montreal together. " Frankly, I don't like Toronto and I don't like the building that I am living in . I searched for apartments in other cities in Ontario. They are also expensive. I searched for apartments in Montreal. I found real beautiful places with reasonable prices. I wonder if he will come back soon, I will move there and be at peace living near 2 very close friends. Dear God, don't let me in a bad situation for a long time, please prepare something for me now. thank you Jesus Hi Heidi! I am a (young) retired teacher in Ontario. Having much time on my hands, I looked into teaching/tutoring online. I have found plenty of opportunities with decent compensation (although I decided not to go for it after all.) You could do some freelancing work online with Upwork and/or freelancer. I got some decent gigs with freelancer, but most jobs don't pay well. Anyways, you might want to look at your options. I am originally from Montréal and I can attest that rents are cheaper than in Ontario. Most people in Montreal are bilingual, and it is a requirement for most jobs. However, online work doesn't limit you. God bless you! Hélène :bye: Helene, Thank you very much for looking into this for me. It's very nice of you. thank you for the info. I will look it up over the weekend. I speak French. A colleague told me that there are parents whose kids are in French immersion programs and they need help. she told me to look into that too. I attended a session with a client a couple of days ago. My manager told me to attend with her and encourage her. The sessions are for women who are experiencing a lot of stress and also need to improve their English. The facilitator told the women to get in touch with her if they are thinking of starting their own business. She said she is a small business facilitator and can help them out. I emailed her telling her I need her help. She gave me another email and phone number and told me to get in touch with her next week. Helene, I heard it snows from November to May in Montreal. Is it really that bad? I will get depressed if we have so many months of snow. Or does it snow just a little bit in November, December, April and May? Just a little snow of flurries maybe? I am also thinking of using my car to make money and offer people rides. I am not sure I want to offer rides in bad weather conditions. Can you tell me a little bit more about the weather in Montreal and what's it like November to May? thank you November and May are similar to South-Central Ontario. There is usually not a lot of snow in November, but the potential is always there. As a transition month, freezing rain is a real possibility. I believe winter tires are compulsory starting in November. There is much more snow accumulation in Montreal than in Toronto, but both have that damp cold that gets in your bones. Your car could get buried in a storm. You need to keep a shovel and snow crampons in your trunk to get your car out of drifts. I would not have a job requiring a vehicle in the winter. I drove a whole winter in Montreal with slush flying everywhere. February is the coldest month. March can bring big storms and April can see snow or freezing rain. By the time May rolls around, things are good. The metro (subway) is the best way to travel in the city.
