Ukraine President Calls for ‘Immediate’ EU Membership Under ‘Special Procedure’:

President Volodymyr Zelensky is calling for both a ceasefire and for Ukraine’s “immediate” accession to the European Union as his government holds peace talks with a Kremlin delegation in the Russian client state of Belarus.

While the former Soviet Socialist Republic would not qualify for EU membership under normal circumstances, President Zelensky has said that he is “confident” that his country could be admitted to the bloc “under a new special procedure."

"We appeal to the European Union for Ukraine’s immediate accession under a new special procedure,” the comic actor turned wartime leader said at a press conference on Monday.

Zelensky said he was grateful to Ukraine’s “partners” in the European Union for their support so far — initially rather dubious but recently strengthened with an unprecedented plan to finance €500 million (£418,300,000/$561,160,000) in arms shipments — but said that his countrymen’s goal is to “stand alongside all Europeans and, most importantly to stand on their level” as EU citizens.

“I am confident that this is fair. I am confident that we deserve this. I am confident that all this is possible,” he added.

Amir Tsarfati:

Major Escalation as Nuclear Missiles in Russia are made ready to be launched in short notice.

............................................

A report in Syria: "Russia has begun recruiting young people in areas under Bashar al-Assad's control to fight in Ukraine."  In Syria, it is reported that the Russians have begun recruiting volunteers from among the residents of the areas under Assad's control and it intends to send them to the battlefields in Ukraine.  According to reports in Syria, the Russians are offering a salary of $ 2,000 per mercenary and a promise of paying $ 5,000 to the families of fighters killed on the battlefield in Ukraine.

Clarification: in Syria there are pro-Russian and anti-Russian Syrians.
Russia is recruiting among the pro.  The rebels are recruiting among the anti.
Basically, the civil war in Syria is moving to Ukrainian soil.
......................................................

Belarus wanted to host the talks between Moscow and Kyiv, yet they themselves launched short-range 9K720 Iskanderballistic missiles today at Ukraine.

......................................................

The Iranian lesson from the war in Ukraine:
The newspaper "Watan Amroz" affiliated with the conservative camp in Iran today calls on its main page to maintain an Iranian nuclear deterrent (uranium enrichment) so that the fate of Iran will not be the same as the fate of Zalansky and Ukraine.  Ukraine has previously given up its nuclear program in exchange for the West's promise to protect it.

......................................................
Breaking: Kosovo asks the US for a permanent military base and requests NATO membership.

.....................................................

UPDATE: Russian ruble continues to drop, now down 41% against the U.S. dollar in early trade.

Breaking: Russia's Central Bank more than doubles key interest rate to 20% in effort to slow inflation and protect the ruble.

Russia orders people and companies to sell 80% of their revenue in foreign currencies, forcing them to buy the ruble.

......................................................

Reports that the talks in Belarus failed.

Amir Tsarfati:

The presidents of Poland, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia and Slovenia this evening issued an open letter calling on EU member states to "allow EU institutions to take steps to ensure Ukraine's candidate status immediately and open negotiations." This is after President Vladimir Zelenskyy signed an official request to join the union.

Thank you, Almost Home, I've heard about those thermobaric 'vacuum' bombs.  In your Daily Mail article it says:

Thermobaric weapons - also known as vacuum bombs - are high-powered explosives that use the atmosphere itself as part of the explosion.  They are among the most powerful non-nuclear weapons ever developed.  The U.S. version of the weapon reportedly costs over $16 million each.

The bomb works by using oxygen from the surrounding air to generate a high-temperature explosion, making it far deadlier than a conventional weapon.

The vacuum bombs, which are also known as thermobaric weapons, can vaporize bodies and crush internal organs.

Ukraine's ambassador to the U.S. claimed earlier on Monday that Russia used a devastating vacuum bomb on Ukraine.  Oksana Markarova, speaking after briefing members of the U.S. Congress, said: 'They used the vacuum bomb today, which is actually prohibited by the Geneva convention. The devastation that Russia is trying to inflict on Ukraine is large.'

On the T.V. nightly news, they were saying Putin now has committed war crimes.  Maybe this is one reason why.
