IMHO, Turkey is Togarmah. Ezekiel 38:6. I came across studies that pointed to Turkey being known as "Beth Togarmah" which means House of Togarmah. Josephus identified Togarmah as Phrygians, located in the Asia Minor region also known as Turkey. So Togmarah existed in the geographical regions of Turkey and Armenia.

I do expect Turkey to join Russia in this planned invasion of Israel. Due to Ezekiel 38:6.

A little more on why Russia is not Magog.

Is Magog Russia? Is Putin Gog-Antichrist?
There is much discussion currently in prophetic Christian circles about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine being a precursor of the Gog-Magog war described in Ezekiel 38 & 39. The controversy all boils down to one question; is Russia Magog? Varying translations add to the controversy. NKJ: “….Gog of the land of Magog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal.” KJ & NIV; “….Gog of the land of Magog, chief prince of Meshech and Tubal.” (Ezekiel 38:2). Note in the NKJ “Rosh” is a place (noun) along with Meshech and Tubal. In the KJ and NIV, “rosh” is an adjective translated “chief”describing the prince (Gog). Thus, many take “Rosh” in the NKJ to be a wordplay on Russia and Meshech and Tubal word plays on the Russian cities of Moscow and Tobolsk. Therefore, they conclude Magog is Russia and Gog (the antichrist) the leader of Russia, currently Vladimir Putin. Adding credence to this view is the wording that Gog is located in the “far north” of Israel. (Ezekiel 38:5,15). Russia is certainly to the far north of Israel.

However, there is much to support the view that Russia is not at all indicated by these scriptures.

First, the word plays on Rosh, Meschech, and Tubal, have no place in proper word etymology.

Second, the words “far north” simply mean “north quarter”. Drawing an X through Jerusalem will reveal the territory described. The word “far” is added by the translators.

Third, the most reliable early middle east maps show Magog, Meshech, and Tubal as areas of what is currently Turkey.

Fourth, Psalm 120 Gives the outer limits of Davids sojourning to escape the threats of King Saul “Woe to me that I dwell in Meschech, that I dwell among the tents of Kedar.” (Psalm 120:5). If David went as far north as Moscow to escape Saul, he would have had to travel over 1500 miles to the north of Israel! No, his travels ranged from Assyria in the north and Arabia in the south. It’s absurd to think that David traveled to Moscow. Meschech is not Moscow.

Fifth, the Hebrew word rosh (roshe) is used 598 time in the Old Testament. It always means “chief, top, head, or principle, never a geographical place. The Jewish new year is called Rosh Ashana meaning “head” of the year. Chief prince is the correct translation.

There are many other circumstantial reasons why Russia is not Magog that are beyond the scope of this blog, but these five reasons should suffice. Of course, it is possible that Russia will be involved to some degree in the final conflict of this age, even being one of the ten nations allied with the antichrist, but she is not Magog and Putin is not Gog.

Here's another reason why Magog cannot be Russia.

In Ezekiel Chapter 27, it says that Tyre trades with Mesesch and Tubal. It is unreasonable to the extreme to suppose that Tyre was trading with "Moscow" and some city in distant Siberia in the 7th century BC.

Ezekiel 27:1-14

New King James Version

Lamentation for Tyre
27 The word of the Lord came again to me, saying, 2 “Now, son of man, take up a lamentation for Tyre, 3 and say to Tyre, ‘You who are situated at the entrance of the sea, merchant of the peoples on many coastlands, thus says the Lord God:

“O Tyre, you have said,
‘I am perfect in beauty.’
4 Your borders are in the midst of the seas.
Your builders have perfected your beauty.
5 They made all your planks of fir trees from Senir;
They took a cedar from Lebanon to make you a mast.
6 Of oaks from Bashan they made your oars;
The company of Ashurites have inlaid your planks
With ivory from the coasts of Cyprus.
7 Fine embroidered linen from Egypt was what you spread for your sail;
Blue and purple from the coasts of Elishah was what covered you.
8 “Inhabitants of Sidon and Arvad were your oarsmen;
Your wise men, O Tyre, were in you;
They became your pilots.
9 Elders of Gebal and its wise men
Were in you to caulk your seams;
All the ships of the sea
And their oarsmen were in you
To market your merchandise.
10 “Those from Persia, Lydia, and Libya
Were in your army as men of war;
They hung shield and helmet in you;
They gave splendor to you.
11 Men of Arvad with your army were on your walls all around,
And the men of Gammad were in your towers;
They hung their shields on your walls all around;
They made your beauty perfect.
12 “Tarshish was your merchant because of your many luxury goods. They gave you silver, iron, tin, and lead for your goods. 13 Javan, Tubal, and Meshech were your traders. They bartered human lives and vessels of bronze for your merchandise. 14 Those from the house of Togarmah traded for your wares with horses, steeds, and mules.

---

Note that Javan (Greece and specifically the Ionian coast), Tubal and Meshech are all grouped together. The reason for that is that they are all in the same reason geographically.

Also, interestingly enough, all the principle powers in the Gog Magog confederacy are listed here except for Cush and Gomer.

Both Russia and Turkey and … will be at the Ezekiel War

Per Got Question

Who are Meshech and Tubal in the Bible?

Meshech (also spelled Meshek) and Tubal were sons of Japheth, one of the three sons of Noah who survived the flood with him (Genesis 10:1–2). Meshech (whose name means “long, tall, or drawn out by force”) is the sixth son of Japheth. The land of Meshech is closely associated with that of Tubal, especially in a prophecy of Ezekiel. The region of Meshech is often identified as being north of the Black Sea (southern Russia and Ukraine and possibly the Republic of Georgia), and Tubal as an area in central Turkey.

The land of Meshech is used in Psalm 120:5 as a generic reference to barbarous regions where “those who hate peace” live (verse 6). The lands where Meshech’s and Tubal’s descendants settled figure significantly in some prophecies of Ezekiel, and it is in that book where they are mentioned most. In the prophecy of Ezekiel 38, Meshech and Tubal are ruled by Gog, a prince over those territories: “The word of the LORD came to me: ‘Son of man, set your face toward Gog, of the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him and say, “Thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I am against you, O Gog, chief prince of Meshech and Tubal”’” (Ezekiel 38:1–3). Ezekiel repeats God’s words of judgment against the descendants of the two sons of Japheth when he prophesies that God will defeat them in a war against Israel (Ezekiel 39:1–5).

Many biblical scholars equate the land of Gog in Ezekiel’s prophecies with Russia, who will attack Israel “from the far north” (Ezekiel 38:15). Meshech and Tubal could be two of the “many nations” joining Russia in their invasion of Israel (verse 6).

The advance of the alliance involving Meshech and Tubal will be like “a cloud covering the land” (Ezekiel 38:9). Some commentators believe this war, often called the Battle of Gog and Magog, will be one of the events leading up to the end-times’ tribulation. Others believe it will occur close to the midpoint of the tribulation, since Israel will feel secure at the time, “dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates” (verse 11).

God will defeat this powerful alliance (Ezekiel 38:22) to reveal His greatness to all the world (verse 23) and restore the people of Israel to a right relationship with Himself (Ezekiel 39:21–29). Meshech and Tubal, despite the strength of their numbers and help of their allies, will fall.

Going to primary sources that Bible scholars have used to date Biblical events and prove it's reliability is helpful.

Assyrian Court Records

The popular identification of the nations of Ezekiel 38-39 is not correct. Despite the traditional viewpoint, professional archeologists know the identity of these nations from the Assyrian Royal Court records. The reliable, clear and detailed records of Assyrian Royal Court show they dealt directly with each of these nations about 100 years before Ezekiel wrote. These are the same records that are referred to in Ezra 4:15, 19 and 5:17-6:7. These passages tell how the Jews of the fifth century BC 538 BC–457 BC overcame opposition by the local Persian governor to the rebuilding of the Temple in Jerusalem by referring to these same Assyrian cuneiform court records. They are also the same records Bible scholars now use to provide independent verification and edification of the Bible’s historical accounts from about 805 BC to 530 BC.

Who and what are Gog and Magog?

Gog is a historical man who the Greeks called Gyges of Lydia. In Gyges of Lydia we have the leader the Assyrians called “Gugu, King of Ludu,” and “Gugu of Magugu,” who is referred to in the Bible as Gog of Magog. “Magog” simply means “the land of Gog.” In Akkadian ma means land, so in Akkadian Ma- gugu means “the land of Gugu,” which becomes our Ma-gog. (Just as the Assyrian eponym for the land of the leader called Zamua is rendered as Ma-zamua). Magog is an eponym for the ancient nation of Lydia that was in the westernmost part of Asia Minor. The Assyrians often referred to a new land by the name of the first leader they learned of from this land. The Assyrians dealt with Lydia through Meshech, who were subsequently defeated by Gomer, and thus the Assyrians finally came to deal with Lydia directly. In the prophecy of Ezekiel 38/39 Gog is being used as a “historical type” of the “antichrist” who is prophesied to come during the end times, and Magog is being used as a “historical type” of “the land of the antichrist.”

Im Sumerian, Gog or Gug means darkness. So Darkness from the Land of Darkness is going to invade Israel in the last days. What better place for this Antichrist figure to be from that where the Throne of Satan was located.
