Hello brothers and sisters!

I was a lurker on the other site for the longest time and was very sad when the old site went down.  Facebook tried, but it was nothing to compare to the site.  I am so thankful to see it back up and so thankful to see each of you back here.  You feel like family to me.  .

It may be a violation of the rules ( i hope not) but if you have Netflix and if you binge watch, there is a series on there called "Shtisel".  It is about an orthodox Jewish family in Jerusalem and their day to day lives.  It is in Hebrew, but is subtitled.  It is excellent.

I am not much for recommending other things to people, but i have to on this one.  In the course of their lives they explain so much that I never understood about our Jewish roots.  For instance, one of the main characters enters into a marriage contract.  It shows all parts of it and then......well........it would be a spoiler alert if i told it. I always knew "abba" in the gospels, but had no idea it was a term of endearment that one calls their father.  It is an intimate, down on the deckplate type of word that is used often.  I always took it as a sacred word, etched in stain glass and only used in holy situations.........if that makes any sense.

I hope i am not advertising in violation of the rules, but it really has helped me see the orthodox faith much closer and understand it much more.  There is no filthy language, no inappropriate scenes, etc.
If you are into a very good drama and have the time to binge watch it, watch it.

Love to all!

Whit

Welcome, Whit,

I second your Shtisel recommendation, it is very dry and to me funny and as well as informative of Othordox Jewish life in Israel.

Your reference to "abba" Father and how Jewish children use it in a way that we say "daddy". In fact, I grew up and in adulthood called my father "daddy" !!!

Blessings and welcome.  So glad that you are posting, glad that you are part of our little family here!

IMHO Ritan is more than just a website.  Hope this holds true for all of us here.
