After the destruction of the temple in 70 AD it was changed to celebrate the giving of the law. Before the destruction of the temple it was originally a celebration of first fruits of crops. Jesus is THE first fruit, but perhaps we could be classified as a type of first fruits going in before the tribulation saints and other latecomers.
