I am praying for Brittney Griner's release, for Jesus to set the captive free. I hope others here are praying for the same. She is a basketball player for the Phoenix Mercury; I live here in Phoenix. But I really feel for her and her chances of release which are probably diminished by Biden/US possibly sending military to fight for the Ukraine. I just saw this article today about Brittney's future, being sent to a Russian penal colony. https://www.yahoo.com/news/griner-being-sent-russian-penal-182810775.html I will pray that God guides her and protects her and leads her into a relationship with Jesus but I will not pray for the release of someone with such priviledge who hates and disrespects my country. Far too many service men and women have died defending this country. Far too many families have lost loved ones in defense of this country. Griner disrespects them by demanding that our national anthem not be played before WNBA games. And she knew well the laws of Russia and chose to break them. When I read in scripture about Jesus setting captives free, I don't automatically think of prisoners who are serving a sentence for a crime. I think of all of mankind and how each of us are captive to sin. Once we believe and have faith in His finished work on the cross we are free....free from our original destination in hell, free from the punishment of sin, free from our own destructive nature......who the Son sets free, is free indeed....praise Jesus!! As a mother I feel for this girl's mom and her pain of watching her child have to endure consequences from bad choices, especially in a foreign land. As a citizen of the US, I recognize an entitled and arrogant generation who rarely have to deal with consequences for bad decisions. I do pray that this girl finds Jesus and gets saved. I also pray that the Lord can use her in her circumstances and position to be a witness for Jesus, and for lands where Jesus is preached freely and for an attitude of gratitude which is often the result of worldly trials and tribulations. I know that Brittney Griner is not a perfect person (who is?) She is also a woman married to another woman. Yes, we should pray for her salvation and for God to open her spiritual eyes. But I don't believe she was smuggling drugs; she had something for personal use that is legal in the United States. I will continue to pray for her release as I wouldn't wish her harsh future on anyone and I don't believe she deserves it. I hope others here will join me in prayer for her as scripture says, "where two or more are gathered"... God is there. I will pray that God's will is accomplished in her life. :rose: I respect Yohanan's views which leads me to Spirit led prayers! Would God honor prayers for someone He has already turned over to a reprobate mind?! Sadly there are times we simply need to shake the dust off our sandals and keep moving on! How many times will the Lord extend himself to those that repeatedly refuse Him, thereby refusing His kingdom! We are already at that point when time has run out for many!!! TR If God's grace is sufficient for us and for martyr's who love Him, all the more for those who don't!!! Praying for Brittney in her time of solitude that the noise of the world and fight for appeals will quiet down around her. Praying Lord that things become so quiet, that she can only focus and think on You. Bring to her mind Father, all that she has seen and heard in her life that has spoken of Your existence and Love for mankind, and memory that You are the only path and Way to salvation. Praying You arise in her heart, and that all spiritual blindness falls away, and that she can hear Your voice above all other voices. Give her this chance Father to turn away the enemy's plan for her life, so that she will turn and run to You, once and for all and for forever. Let her be a Light Lord to all, to carry the Name of Jesus forth to all You give her.
