A new report suggests the United States may be preparing to escalate pressure on the Iranian regime from within its own borders. According to multiple sources familiar with the discussions, the CIA is exploring a plan to arm Kurdish opposition fighters operating along the Iraq–Iran border in an effort to spark a popular uprising inside Iran and further destabilize the regime in Tehran. The discussions, first reported by CNN, indicate that the Trump administration has been actively communicating with Iranian opposition groups and Kurdish leaders in Iraq about providing military assistance as the conflict with Iran intensifies.
