Eek ... they are really vexing us to the gills.  I wonder if the unsaved will start waking up if they enforce the face shields or hazmat suits?   I saw 2 grocery store workers today - the cashier had both the face mask and the plastic shield on with blue disposable gloves.  The lady in the deli dept  had the plastic face shield on but no mask.   I wish I had my old 1970’s Dome umbrella ... remember these? Who would have thought it would come in handy for indoor shopping in the 21st century.

I think we are all ready to get off this insane 2020 highway.  Looking forward to flying upwards on the highway to heaven ... but until then ... I wish would could just drove off the exit to simpler times like the 1980’s. B-)

Also now there is an outbreak with salmonella with red, white, yellow  & sweet onions coming from Thomson International - Bakersfield, CA.  Ironically the symptoms of salmonella illness are the same as COVID-19

Health Today article
Red onions culprit in salmonella cases that have sickened nearly 400 in US, another 114 in Canada

Health officials in the U.S. are investigating a salmonella outbreak tied to red onions, which has caused nearly 400 cases reported in 34 states this month.

The Food and Drug Administration, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other state and local officials are tracking the outbreak of salmonella newport which has been tied to red, white, yellow, and sweet onions from Thomson International, a supplier headquartered in Bakersfield, Calif.

So far, officials have reported 396 illnesses and 59 hospitalizations. No deaths have been reported.

The salmonella newport outbreak tied to red onions is a different strain than anotherhappening in the U.S. which has sickened hundreds of people in 48 states. The other strain has been linked to poultry raised in backyards of homes.

States with the most cases of salmonella newport include Oregon (71), Utah (61), California (49), Montana (33), Michigan (23). For the complete list go to the FDA website.

Another 114 cases had been found by the Public Health Agency of Canada with those illnesses reported becoming ill after eating red onions at home, in menu items ordered at restaurants and in residential care settings. No deaths have been reported in Canada.

The FDA says Thomson International will be recalling all varieties of its onions that could have contacted potentially contaminated red onions, due to the risk of cross-contamination. The company has not yet issued plans for product recalls.

Consumers, restaurants, and retailers who cannot tell if their onions came from Thomson International Inc. or any food dish contains them should not eat, sell, or serve them and, instead, throw them out.

And the FDA suggests thorough cleaning and sanitizing of any cutting boards, surfaces and containers that may have come in contact with the products to reduce the risk of cross-contamination.

The CDC says illnesses ranged from June 19-July 12. Those who became ill range in age from less than 1 to 102 years, with a median age of 39.

Most of those who get sick from salmonella will begin developing symptoms 12 to 72 hours after infection. Patients may develop diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps. More severe cases may include aches, headaches, elevated fever, lethargy, rashes, blood in the urine or stool, and in some cases may become fatal.

The illness, which is called salmonellosis, typically lasts four to seven days and most recover without treatment. The CDC estimates that about 450 persons in the U.S. die each year from acute salmonellosis.

I can actually see this machine already set up when I go for my dental cleaning this week.  I think we all will be changing our names soon to “Ken U. Seemee” B-)     Last week the hygienist called reminding me of my appointment  ... at first I was hesitant in answering the phone because caller i.d showed the hospital name and not the dentist.  He set up his office now at the hospital in one of the wings.  They were doing weird things like blood pressure readings before they would work on your teeth ... this was all before COVID-19.  So when the phone rang I thought at first oh no ... I’m on the contact tracing list with the town clerk ... does the hospital want me to go in for a COVID “test”?  But thankfully, it was only the hygienist. She, of course, was asking those famous numerous questions - have you traveled far in the past 14 days, have you’ve been sick, had or have a fever, etc.  She wants me to arrive 10 minutes earlier and if I have a fever that morning ... don’t bother coming in.  That’s going to be hard to check since you can’t buy a thermometer anywhere on planet earth.  She said be prepared for the temperature reading before entering the hospital door.  I’m to wear my mask and then she will be giving me “some solution” to swish my mouth out with BEFORE I can remove my mask.  That’s going to get interesting ... putting liquid in your mouth with a mask on ... perhaps I should bring a straw with me?   Now I’m wondering WHAT is in that liquid solution?  This is all to having a simple cleaning done.  Is it worth it?
