FCC orders phone service carriers to block 'autowarranty' robocalls: 'Consumers are out of patience and I’m right there with them': Thanks to the FCC, those pesky robocalls warning you that the warranty on your vehicle is about to expire may soon become a thing of the past. On Thursday, the FCC released a statement announcing that it has ordered all U.S. phone service carriers to block these robocalls, which have been traced to 13 individuals and six companies mainly operating out of Texas and California. According to the statement, these 19 entities are responsible for sending more than eight billion illegal robocalls since 2018, and now, the FCC says, telecom companies are responsible for stopping them. Though the FCC had drawn attention to the robocall issue previously, the agency has now named names so that service providers will have all the information they need to make the calls stop. “We are not going to tolerate robocall scammers or those that help make their scams possible," said FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel. "Consumers are out of patience and I’m right there with them." Report: FBI Believes Huawei Telecom Equipment Can Capture and Disrupt U.S. Military Communications: An FBI investigation into Chinese land purchases near critical infrastructure as well as the Huawei equipment found on many American cell towers has found the Chinese company’s telecom gear capable of capturing and even disrupting U.S. military communications, including that of the U.S. Strategic Command, which oversees America’s nuclear arsenal, according to a report by CNN. According to a CNN report based on interviews with 12 current and former intelligence officials, Chinese telecom giant Huawei has been the subject of investigations by the FBI who now believes that the company’s equipment has the ability to snoop on U.S. military communications, and even disrupt communications when activated. Donald Trump put policies in place largely banning Huawei from the United States, considerably damaging the company’s profits, but the equipment remains on many cell towers, including those strategically placed near critical military infrastructure. It appears this problem will continue until Congress and the executive branch decide to get serious on Chinese spying. Democrat House Intelligence Committee Member Warns: DNA Testing Can Be Used as Bioweapon to Target Americans: Bio-weapons are being developed that use specific DNA to target and kill individuals through their medical profile, a Democrat member of the U.S. House Intelligence Committee warned Friday. Jason Crow (D-CO), a U.S. Army veteran, used the Aspen Security Forum to warn Americans to be more judicious about sharing their DNA with private companies due to the coming of new bioweapon types. His call is a repeat of one made in 2019 when concerns about China acquiring the DNA of American service members prompted the Pentagon to issue an advisory to the entire force against using commercial popular DNA testing kits to trace one’s ancestry. “You can actually take someone’s DNA, take, you know, their medical profile and you can target a biological weapon that will kill that person or take them off the battlefield or make them inoperable,” Crow, from Colorado, reportedly said. It can be sold off with very little intellectual property protection or privacy protection and we don’t have legal and regulatory regimes to deal with that.” DNA service provider 23andMe has repeatedly stated it does not sell off customers’ private information.
