1) Peter said that the believers are not drunk because the wine is new – this would mean that the grapes have just been picked and the wine bottled…but too early for fermentation to have taken place; one can’t get drunk on newly bottled wine.  Well, the grape harvest in Israel, even in ancient times, doesn’t even start until July.  Any wine consumed in June would have been the previous year’s wine and would have been well fermented.

This seems like a clue from Peter that Pentecost is a summer Feast Day and not a Spring Feast day.

No, Peter said the disciples were not drunk because the day was new.

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers
(15) Seeing it is but the third hour of the day.--The appeal is made to the common standard of right feeling. Drunkenness belonged to the night (1Thessalonians 5:7). It was a mark of extremest baseness for men to "rise up early in the morning that they may follow strong drink" (Isaiah 5:11; comp. also Ecclesiastes 10:16). "Were the disciples likely to be drunk at 9 a. m., and that on the morning of the Day of Pentecost, after a night spent in devotion, and when all decent Jews were fasting?

Truly, someone more familiar with timelines would have to evaluate this theory to see how well it stands up.  I don't find myself convinced about the reference to the wine, however.

Good catch, David.  No sour grapes here ... I reckon we will just have to focus on Feast of Trumpets ...

  1. In Matthew 26:29, Jesus said he would not drink this fruit of vine, until the day when he drinks the new wine with them in his Father's kingdom. Is this new wine the same as the new wine Peter refers to? I meant, the new meat offering we find in Leviticus 23:15,16 which refers to Shavuot. And since we can't find this new wine promise until we come to Marriage Supper of the Lamb, does it mean the new wine Jesus has promised is the Marriage Supper which shall be held on Shavuot?   And since Jesus comes back right away after the Marriage Supper, it shall place Jesus's return to earth on Tammuz 27.

Here's a point to support that Shavuot and the real Pentecost falls on summer instead of the traditional view of spring.

Acts 2:12 And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this? 13 Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.

People were mocking, saying "these men are full of new wine". Now, the old wine is referred to the previous year grape harvest. The new wine is referred to the grape harvest which has just taken place in July/August during their gathering and receiving Holy Spirit.

If the gathering took place in spring May or June, the new wine is not ready yet. They should have mocking them by accusing them drunkard with the old wine. Having said this, I do believe Holy Spirit decent on them during the month of July/August.
