Protests in Israel and strike called amid eruption of outrage over Gaza war:

Tens of thousands of Israelis took to the streets on Sunday night and a general strike was called amid an eruption of public outrage over the government’s handling of the war in Gaza after the deaths of six hostages being held deep underground by Hamas.

The discovery of the hostages’ bodies in Gaza over the weekend threatened to bring deep divisions over the war to breaking point. An estimated 100,000 protested in Tel Aviv, while others demonstrated in Jerusalem as pressure on the prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, to reach a ceasefire deal to bring the remaining hostages home reached a new peak.

The first general strike since March last year is expected to bring large parts of Israel’s economy to a halt on Monday. Government and municipal offices were due to close, as well as schools and many private businesses. Israel’s international airport, Ben Gurion, is due to shut down at 8am local time (0600 BST) for an unknown period.

Israel’s health ministry said a forensic examination of the bodies showed the hostages had been “murdered by Hamas terrorists in a number of shots at close range” 48 to 72 hours before they were found.

However, the findings pointing to Hamas executions did little to deflect widespread fury towards Netanyahu and his rightwing coalition for failing to agree a US-backed hostages-for-peace deal with Hamas, which has been on the negotiating table since late May.

Announcing the general strike, the leader of the Histadrut trade union federation, Arnon Bar-David, said: “It is impossible to stand by any more and look the other way as our children are murdered in the tunnels of Gaza."

“We are no longer one country. This must be stopped. The state of Israel must be returned to normal. We are getting body bags instead of a deal.

Dalia Cusnir’s two brothers-in-law, Eitan and Yair Horn, were abducted that day and are still in Gaza.  "We’re done talking,” Cusnir said. “Our family members who are being held hostage cannot wait any more, and the government is clearly not doing anything to promote a deal.”

She was dismissive of the government’s claim that keeping hold of the Philadelphi corridor was a strategic necessity for Israel.

Netanyahu Answers Biden’s Criticism: ‘What Message Does This Send Hamas? It Says, Kill More Hostages’:

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded to criticism Monday from President Joe Biden by saying that pressuring Israel, in the wake of Hamas’s murder of six hostages, will only encourage Hamas to kill more hostages.

Against those Israeli military leaders and officials who suggested Israel could afford to withdraw from the corridor for the first six weeks of a proposed hostage deal, Netanyahu said there was no such thing as a “temporary” withdrawal. International pressure, he said, would prevent Israel from taking back the corridor once it had given it up. “This thing [giving up the Philadelphi Corridor] will not bring back the hostages — quite the opposite,” Netanyahu concluded.

Netanyahu then addressed the criticism from President Biden, who said earlier Monday that Netanyahu was not doing enough to achieve a deal. Without addressing Biden directly, Netanyahu read quotes from senior American officials who had been saying for months that Israel had accepted the terms of a proposed deal, and that Hamas had not. There would be a deal, he said, when Hamas realized Israel was united on existential issues like Philadelphi.

Later, when he was asked a question in English, Netanyahu repeated the quotes from American officials, and added:

What has changed in the last five days? What has changed? One thing: these murderers executed six of our hostages. They shot them in the back of the head. That’s what changed. And now, after this, we’re asked to show seriousness? We’re asked to make concessions? What message does this send Hamas? It says, kill more hostages, murder more hostages, you’ll get more concessions. The pressure, internationally, must be directed at these killers — at Hamas, not at Israel. We say yes, they say no all the time — but they also murdered these people. And now we need maximum pressure on Hamas. I don’t believe that either President Biden or anyone serious about achieving peace, and achieving the release [of the hostages], would seriously ask Israel to make these concessions. We’ve already made them. Hamas has to make the concessions.

Asked when residents of Israel’s northern communities — tens of thousands of whom have been evacuated due to rocket attacks by Hezbollah from southern Lebanon — could return home, Netanyahu said that it would require a change in the security situation, hinting at possible war.

Israel has said that it wants Hezbollah to comply with United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, move north of the Litani River, and stop attacking Israel. If diplomacy fails, Israel has said it is prepared to go to war in Lebanon.

Amir Tsarfati, Sept 3:

Yesterday, 79 years ago, Japan surrendered to the Allies and thus ended World War II.

The biggest war in human history, with approximately 70 million casualties, including 6 million Jews who were murdered in the Holocaust, changed the world from end to end.

The global hope was that its end would bring world peace. But after only a few years of peace, the Cold War began to take hold between the two victorious powers. The end of major wars also bring aftershocks in the form of local wars (the war of independence of Indonesia and Vietnam, the Iron Curtain in Europe, the civil war in China, etc.), which indicates that many ends still remain open.

In the situation we are in today, and having learned from history, "the day after" remains up to the winner. But just like then, even today the aftershocks are expected to arrive. The wisdom is to prepare for them in advance, and the ground must be prepared for a future that will preserve the security of the State of Israel for decades to come.

Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson criticizes the decision in London to halt security shipments to Israel:
"Hamas is still holding innocent Jewish hostages while Israel is trying to prevent a repeat of the October 7 massacre.
Why are Foreign Secretary Lammy and Prime Minister Starmer abandoning Israel? Do they want Hamas to win?"
.....
Former UK Home Secretary Priti Patel slams the British Prime Minister for cancelling arms shipments to Israel.

“Starmer's decision is appalling. To play politics with Israel's security on a day they bury their dead is as saddening as it is disgraceful.
This decision is purely for the purposes of internal Labour politics and is a total capitulation to his hard-left Labour MPs.

It’s clear that the Prime Minister doesn’t have the courage to stand up to our enemies, whether that’s Putin or Hamas. Just like on the deportation of foreign offenders, Sir Keir is more afraid by the militant left wingers in his own party than those who pose a direct threat to our national security.
This shocking betrayal of a key UK ally is a terrible indication of the UK’s approach to national security under this weak Prime Minister.”
.....
Britain's Daily Telegraph: Labour's arms boycott is a shameful betrayal of a heroic ally. "To impose sanctions on the grounds of harming innocents a day after Hamas murdered six innocents is satire at its best."

Archaeology is a big problem for the Palestinian cause:

Israeli archaeologists in Jerusalem found a 2,700-year-old stone seal last week near the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.  It’s just a few inches in diameter, but it’s a big deal for Zionism—and another blow to the Palestinian Arab cause.

The discovery highlights the importance of the continuing work by archaeologists, who have spent years sifting through tons of debris that have been dumped outside Jerusalem’s walls by the Islamic authorities who control the mosques on the Temple Mount.

That debris comes from renovations undertaken by Islamic officials on the Temple Mount plaza, the holiest site in Judaism.  In callous disregard for the sanctity of the site, the Islamic authorities have been discarding the debris from the renovations as if it were garbage.

There’s been a lot of talk in recent weeks about the “status quo” on the Temple Mount. U.S. State Department officials and angry pundits treat the “status quo” as if it’s holy.  They seem to forget that just because something has been the “status quo” for a while doesn’t make it right.  For many years, apartheid was the status quo in South Africa, and racial segregation was the status quo in the American South.

The archaeology question is the never-talked-about aspect of the Temple Mount “status quo.”

The Islamic officials on the mount have been exploiting their privileged status to bury—literally—the voluminous evidence of the site’s Jewish roots.

Why do the Islamic authorities want to hide the rubble from the renovations?  Because the Israeli archaeologists going through the discarded debris continually find pieces of the past that reconfirm the thousands of years of Jewish history in the Holy Land.

The stone seal that was just discovered doesn’t have any inscriptions referring to “Palestine.” It doesn’t refer to any indigenous Palestinian holidays, nor does it bear any ancient Palestinian symbols—because none of those things exist.  The writing on the seal is Hebrew, not Arabic. The name written on it is a Jewish name, not an Arab or Muslim name: Yeho’ezer ben Hoshayahu.

As a matter of fact, the city of Jerusalem itself is not mentioned in the Quran either. Isn’t that fascinating?  Despite all the platitudes we hear about how Jerusalem is the “city of three ancient faiths,” Jerusalem does not appear a single time in the Quran.

Altogether, the archaeologists of the Temple Mount Sifting Project have uncovered several thousand items related to the biblical period. And not one of those items—not one—refers to “Palestinians.”  No wonder the Islamic religious authorities treat the debris from their renovations as garbage.  They know that every scoop of dirt can reveal additional evidence that the rightful owners of Jerusalem and the Land of Israel are the Jews.  The Islamic officials on the Temple Mount would like to hide the past.

Fortunately, however, Israel’s archaeologists have come to the rescue—that is, the rescue of Jewish national history.  In the course of fulfilling the noble scientific purpose of archaeology, they are reaffirming the deep roots of the Jewish people in the Holy Land.

Amir Tsarfati, Sept 4:

60 rockets launched from Lebanon towards northern Israel since the morning hours. The Israeli Air Force is attacking multiple targets in southern Lebanon.
.....
A few ex-IDF generals, led by General Giora Eiland, have presented Netanyahu with a plan of retaliation for the murder of the six hostages and to defeat Hamas. Here are the key elements of the plan that Netanyahu will adopt.

Step One: Evacuate all Gazans from northern Gaza; about 200,000 will be evacuated through checkpoints in the Natzarim corridor.

Step Two: Declare northern Gaza as a closed military zone. No aid, food, water, gas, or medical personnel will be allowed to enter this zone.

Step Three: After a week or so, start clearing up the areas where the Hamas are still present. The cessation of aid will suffocate the remaining Hamas terrorists.

Step Four: Repeat the above in other areas of the Gaza Strip. No Gazans will be allowed to go back to a zone that is cleared until the war is over and Hams surrender.

Analysis:
Laying a siege is acceptable by international law; the remaining people in the area will not be able to survive without food or water, so most likely, they will surrender without a fight or be killed.

Netanyahu is also considering removing the ability of Hamas to control the aid and giving it to the IDF; it will achieve two goals: removing the dependency that Gazans have on Hamas. Also, it will take away their ability to profit from the aid money that they use to hire new terrorists. This looks like a solid plan, and I hope Netanyahu will adopt it.

Exclusive — General Amir Avivi: Israel Needs to Be Independent from U.S. Aid:

LAS VEGAS, Nevada — Brigadier General Amir Avivi (Res.) has a surprising message: Israel needs to wean itself from U.S. aid — while deepening U.S.-Israel relations through joint investments in the military technology of the future.

Avivi, a senior official in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), is the founder of the Israel Defense and Security Forum (IDSF), a conservative, nationalist think tank in Israel. He spoke exclusively to Breitbart News on the sidelines of the Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC) annual leadership meeting.

He said that while U.S. aid had been crucial to Israel decades ago, Israel has outgrown it — and it has become an unhealthy constraint:

I think that in the long term, we need to change the relations. We need to deepen them, but not base them on aid. I mean, twenty, thirty eyars ago, this aid was a huge part of Israel’s budget. But Israel has grown. It’s not a Third World country. It’s one of the leading economies in the world. And I think that Israel should invest in its own industries, and I think that definitely, I expect to see big investments of America in joint ventures with Israel, but it shouldn’t be in the form of aid. Aid is something that puts on Israel lots of restrictions, it hurts our sovereignty, and our ability to take care of our core interests, and therefore I think that in the long term it should be diminished until Israel is able to sustain its security needs without aid. But I think we can get even more money in mutual investments, and not necessarily in the form of aid.

...the ongoing war has highlighted the risks of aid. Because American military aid often requires that Israel spend the money in the U.S., Israel has outsourced its defense production to American companies. That has given the Biden administration leverage over Israeli military policy, as President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have both threatened to cut off weapons to Israel, in the middle of the war, if Israel disagrees with their policies.

Netanyahu is considering: withdrawing from Philadelphi corridor ONLY AFTER the end of the war and the destruction of Hamas' capabilities - and handing the axis over to the security responsibility of the United Arab Emirates.

Between Jerusalem and Abu Dhabi, and also between Netanyahu personally and the President of the UAE Mohammed bin Zayed, there is a close and trust-based relations which prevail even in these tense days of the war. Against this background, Israel wants to see the UAE involved as much as possible in the Gaza Strip the day after the war.

Among other things, the possibility of the IDF withdrawing from the Philadelphi axis after the end of the war, and transferring control of it to Emirati soldiers, is being examined. Israel of course has complete trust in the IDF soldiers, and close to zero trust in the Egyptian army regarding Philadelphi, and stationing soldiers from the UAE along the axis is being examined as a non-ideal solution, But it is possible that both sides (the Israeli and the Egyptian) will be able to live with it.

The rationale is that the Emirati soldiers are much less prone to the temptations of bribery and corruption than their Egyptian counterparts - they earn much more money and come from a country where the ruling culture is much less corrupt - and the trust between Israel and the Emirates is much higher than the trust between Israel and Egypt.

At the moment, it is important to emphasize, this is an idea that is unfolding in Jerusalem and not a decision. In addition, in order for the UAE to even consider it seriously, it is necessary to first finish crushing the military capabilities of Hamas to the bone, because Ben Zayed will not send his soldiers to conduct a routine of street battles in the Strip.

Another role that Netanyahu has assigned to the Emiratis is the establishment of a new education system in the Gaza Strip, replacing that of UNRWA. In recent years, Ben Zayed has led a far-reaching reform of the education system in the UAE: under his instructions, anti-Semitic content and those that preach jihad and radical Islam were removed from the textbooks, and replaced with content that speaks About a moderate, peace-seeking and progressive Islam - exactly what Netanyahu means when he talks about the "de-Nazification" of the Strip.

At the moment, as mentioned, these are ideas that have not yet been formulated into final decisions, and in any case they will be able to be realized - if at all - only after the end of the war; But they point to the direction they would like to set in Israel for the Gaza Strip after achieving the goals of the war, and eliminating the military and governmental capabilities of Hamas.

Amir Tsarfati: As Long As He Is Prime Minister, Israel Will Not Back Down:

This week, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave what I believe to be the most powerful speech of his political career. Two days earlier, six hostages had been executed by gunshots to the back of their heads because Hamas felt the IDF was getting too close to discovering them. It shocked the world and outraged the nation. In response, and under fire from Israeli leftists, families of hostages, international governments, and the United States’ White House, Netanyahu risked his political life by taking the unpopular stand against appeasement for the sake of hostage returns. As the saying goes, “With friends like these….”

There was one truth that Netanyahu communicated that could not be misunderstood. As long as he is prime minister, Israel will not back down. Despite the liberal politicians, Bibi’s stand will stay strong. And despite IDF generals who prefer plotting with one another rather than listening to the government, the PM is going to ensure that the military serves the government’s wishes rather than the government serving the military’s. After listening to the speech numerous times, I believe there are four main takeaways:

1.    Unity is vital to winning the war. This was a message to the Israeli public...  The majority of our citizens agree with Netanyahu that we must remain strong together as we push to finish this war. Unfortunately, those who stand contrary to him – leftist media, big-mouth politicians, and buttinsky foreign governments – have the microphones and the television screens and the news sources.

2.    We received a detailed explanation of the history and importance of keeping the Philadelphi Axis in the hands of the IDF. It is through that area along the Egypt-Gaza border that most of Hamas’s armaments pass into the country. It provides the military oxygen that keeps the terrorists breathing, so it must remain cut off. Passing it back over to Hamas is like committing martial suicide for the IDF.

3.    Israel Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant, U.S. President Joe Biden, and all the others exerting political pressure on Netanyahu need to back off and let him work. As always, the left-wing media took up the cause of the anti-Bibis and grilled the PM mercilessly. But Netanyahu responded masterfully. No matter how hard they tried to trip him up, he was able to communicate his point clearly and concisely.

4.    Yahya Sinwar now knows in no uncertain terms that he is a walking dead man. No pressure from the U.S. or our own far-left elements will change Bibi’s stance on the Philadelphi Axis or on the removal of Sinwar from this planet. By saying it so publicly, Netanyahu has locked himself in and he can never go back.

Once again, I am angered and heart-broken at the barbaric loss of life. But I am not surprised. In fact, I remain optimistic, because biblically I know that we must win this smaller war for the big one of Ezekiel 38 to begin. A time of peace and security is coming for Israel. Once that is finally achieved, Russia, Turkey, Iran, and others will pour out of the north with the intention of destroying and pillaging Israel. All that has happened, God knew before. And He has planned out the perfect path that will ultimately lead to His people crying out to Him, “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord” (Luke 13:35).
