I know this sounds like a joke, but it's not.

All loose monkeys accounted for following Pennsylvania highway crash:  The vehicle carrying an estimated 100 monkeys was involved in a crash and three monkeys escaped, officials said.  Some articles say four escaped.

The shipment of monkeys was en route to a CDC-approved quarantine facility after arriving Friday morning at New York’s Kennedy Airport from Mauritius, the agency said.

Monkeys have been known to transmit diseases, including monkeypox, and the herpes B virus, which was reported to have killed its first human in China last year.

“We’re asking everyone to stay to stay away from the monkeys,” Pelachick said. “If they see one, call 911 immediately and get away from the monkey.”

So many monkeys being used as experiments in their science labs.  Will Planet of the Apes be their ultimate goal?

Lab-Bound Monkeys Escaped Highway Crash—With Viruses?:

PETA has obtained eyewitness information that a woman at the scene of last week’s truck crash—in which crates containing 100 monkeys who were being transported to a laboratory flew onto the road—got an eyeful of monkey saliva that has caused a reaction. She’s now on antiviral drugs and medication to protect against rabies.

Their crates—that weren’t strapped in as required—tumbled from the truck. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention should be scrambling to ensure that numerous other people who were at the scene aren’t in danger.

For the safety of animals and humans, the U.S. must stop pretending that experiments on monkeys are useful and stop importing them.  In light of this fiasco, PETA filed a complaint with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) director of animal welfare operations, asking him to investigate the treatment of these monkeys. The USDA has now confirmed that it’s investigating.

Infected Monkeys—This Is How Pandemics Start:
The monkeys had just arrived in New York from what is likely a squalid breeding farm in Mauritius. They had not been quarantined, and their health status was unknown. Monkeys can carry lethal pathogens that spread through their saliva, blood, feces, and urine. Photos taken at the site of the Pennsylvania monkey crash reveal a worrying lack of biosecurity—people dragging boxes barehanded, motorists sticking their faces into crates, and of course, the escaped, likely terrified and disoriented monkeys who were thrown out into freezing cold weather and will likely die from their injuries and/or exposure or be killed.

There is no way to ensure that monkeys are virus-free, and state veterinary and other records uncovered by PETA show that monkeys in laboratories in the U.S. have been found with tuberculosis, Chagas disease, cholera, and MRSA. The only way to ensure that pathogens don’t jump from monkeys to humans is to stop importing, caging, and experimenting on these animals. A 2020 pathology report uncovered by PETA shows that shortly after clearing Centers for Disease Control quarantine, one monkey from Mauritius arrived at the University of Washington infected with giardia and campylobacter.

This Monkey Crash Should Never Have Happened:
The industry that claims to be developing vaccines and treatments for human diseases not only fails to deliver results from animal-based experimentation, but also cruelly abuses and wastes the lives of sensitive monkeys and poses health risks to the general public by failing to safely contain the animals they use.

Those poor monkeys not only were deliberately infected with disease but they came from a tropical island and were exposed to snow and frigid temperatures after their escape.

The picture of the one huddled in the tree breaks my heart. 🙁

I first heard about this on Facebook.  Friends and relatives from Pennsylvania were laughing about it.  Not sure if they're aware yet what diseases those monkeys could be harboring.

As the man in your article says, "Little monkeys, we got bears, we have coyotes, we have deer, you know all the time. A little 3-pound monkey doesn’t scare me, but why are they so concerned about it is what concerns me,” said Howie Lerch, Valley Township.

Thanks for the letter link, Blake.  Up until right now, even at my advanced age, I had never even heard the term, "macaques," and upon looking that word up I never would have learned another new term, "frugivorous,"(preferring fruit).

Is there anybody else in my boat regarding these two words?  :mail:   Try this sentence on your family this evening.  State, "Macaques are frugivorous," and then snap a photo of a blank look.

Not to be confused, by the way, with the idea, "...wanting macaque and eat it too."

Driver Who Helped CDC Recover Monkeys Who Escaped Now Has Serious Condition:

Blake, a lot of this was covered in your article, but a little additional info:

The day after the accident, Fallon developed a cough and pink eye that became so serious that she was taken to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville for treatment.  She was given the first of four rabies injections, along with some anti-viral drugs, by doctors who specialize in infectious diseases.

‘I spoke with the police and a woman from the CDC.  I am getting a letter and I’m very low risk for I don’t know what yet. But my symptoms are covid symptoms. Like seriously. A day from hell!’

As a result of being so close to them, Fallon will need to keep an eye on her health for the next month to check if she develops any infectious diseases.

When the truck crashed into the garbage truck, the monkeys were on their way to a laboratory in Florida.

They (the powers that be) just keep finding more ways to infect and kill humanity. Poor Monkeys Cry  It is far from funny, but I am reminded of that song “how many monkeys jumping on the bed” — seems like a fitting song in the light of what they are doing to them …
