I've been looking for some time for a good graphical comparison of the New Jerusalem to the Earth. This site provides it:

You'll note that if the NJ sat on the Earth, the edges of the NJ would be up in the air about as high as the narrow part of England is wide. Watch out for that first step, huh?

Does the Bible ever say that the city actually touches down on earth?

Revelation 3:12- "...and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God..."
Revelation 21:2- "And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband."

is it possible the city could be a sort of satellite, revolving around the earth in space?

I made a topical view to show what countries will be consumed by the New Jerusalem City. I can't show it because I can't load the image to my post. Any solutions. There used to be a tool bar but that's missing too.

NJ is a cube, it is not a pyramid. if you take the 3 dimensions given, it has to be a cube. Try to draw a pyramid with those 3 dimensions. Point one: You cannot without first establishing a center point for the angled surfaces to be connected to. Does the Bible give any location for that center point--No. If the center point is not called out, maybe it is not a center point, but just a random point at the height given, then you don't have a pyrmid, but some other geometric shape, which cannot be named without knowing where that point is located. Next, if you think it may be a pyrmid then why can't the 3 dimensions be used to construct a base and 2 sides and be open?. I think we should be more concerned with getting there rather than trying to design NJ. It doesn't matter how thick or how high the walls are, there will be angles guarding the gates. We will be safe and secure.

Just wanted to add I too feel it is a cube given how it is described and how I would bet most people of that day when hearing those demensions would think cube not pyramid. Also it has been mentioned that the moon can't exist anymore because the NJ being in orbit would crash into it. But the moon at it's closest is still over 225,000 miles from earth the NJ is only 1500 miles each way PLENTY of room inside the moons orbit for the NJ to orbit and NOT crash into the moon.

Here is a quote from a book I just finished reading.  It is the story of Seneca Sodi, it is the centenary edition.

Visitation with the Prophet Daniel - page 163 bottom paragraph - For you will remember that the city lies four square, its length and breadth, its height and depth are equal, being like a solid cube, twelve thousand furlongs each side."  

Page 164 - "Twelve thousand furlongs would be fifteen hundred miles of earthly measurement."

"Sure enough," said the elder," and there are nearly four hundred thousand of these sections or stories of the city, beside all the vast illimitable regions of paradise. A thousand years of an earthly count will have passed before you have seen but a small portion of what is yours forever.  Its vastness is beyond your ability to comprehend at present.  So you see, you have ample room for the growth and development of your inquisitive soul."

Folks 1,500 square miles in each story of the city, if you times:

1,500 square miles by 400,000 stories equal what?

Can anyone figure this out.  Would you multiply 1,500 X 4 (square)?

1,500 X 4 = 6,000 square feet.

400,000.00 X 1,500 = 6.0000000

That is how much space there is just in the city folks.  Space for alot of people, animals, homes, etc.

I'm not able to edit my last post so here goes again, the above is all messed up!

1,500 miles on each side would give us 2,250,000 square miles on each level.

2,250,000sq miles times 400,000 levels would give us a total of 900,000,000,000sq miles or 900 BILLION square miles of space in the NJ if my math hat is on straight now.

If we do get wings, I'm hoping for a spot on the bottom., to come and go like those kamikaze swallows I grew up watching....only MUCH cleaner! LOL!

actually thom the temple holy of holies was 20 cubits cubed per 1Ki 6:20 it was the tabernacle that was 10 cubits cubed. Also it is only 1380 miles as a STADIA is the actual measurement not a FURLONG and a statia is much shorter. I think the confussion is because a stadia is 1/8th a greek mile and a furlong is 1/8th a english mile they got mixed up but a greek mile is shorter than a english mile.

Also personally I doubt the 400,000 levels since that would mean there would be 487.5 Trillion acres of space and even with a saved number of 48 Billion, which I think would be much to large by about 5-6 times, that would mean each person would have 10,157 acres to themselves, all with a ceiling of 20 ft, making everyone very secluded from everyone else.

I am much more inclined to a smaller level number given the number of possible people living in it I would say either 12, one for each foundation, or 24, one per elder, or 144, that being 12 squared, with the level size being 115 mi, 57.5 mi, and 9.583mi (or 50,600 ft) respectfully. With all the 12's in the NJ it would fit in that the number of levels should be a 12 or factor ther of. Given the generousity of the Father mansions with plenty of sky above would seem more fitting than rooms with 20 ft ceilings.
