The title of your post caught my attention because I totally agree with you. The prophetic takes a lot of responsibility and discernment and most of all discretion. It is a gift that can be mishandled and abused. It is awful to see people manipulated into false hopes etc. "I see you coming into financial blessings within 20 days etc." Yadi yadi ya
When you read the Bible you hear talk of prophets that only give good news when that was against what the Lord said. Or prophesy for profit. The same exist today. Ive read a certain book about the Prophetic Ministry (wont mention name) and parts of it I scratched my head, like "ookaay, and other parts I was like okay." I basically learned what not to do, what signs to look for in false prophets.
My interest in the book was because there were certain prophetic things occuring in my life and although I had the Holy Spirit to guide me, I had no one in the flesh that I could trust to "talk' to me about how to deal with it. So I literally would have to pray over every thing I read and ask the Holy Spirit to help me retain the real from the junk. It's so important to have discernment especially in these last days when we know that false prophets are in place to decieve the masses.
Thanks for the reminder Leeann. Unfortunately, many believe this aspect of God's sovereignty to be their own personal playground. Could'nt have said it any better. It has been speculated that at Israel's time of greatest growth, there could have been a supposed (l Million) prophets in the land at one time. Yet, only a handful were recorded in the scriptures. And the scriptures, goes one step further and plainly states that God rejected all of them as false. Whether they spoke by dream, vision, or annointing, most of them were wrong. How appropiate a word for us today! Truely the responsbility is great, so then the judgements of God. Spiritual hype and hysteria can account for so many of these that come down the pike. But pastors, teachers and wannabe prophets, will answer to a higher calling. This is why we are instucted to test each and every spirit. One great truth is that, Satan will always tell us what we want to hear.
