I was over 60 years old when I discovered the truth of Miri's name. I am wondering if anyone on RITA has given this any thought until now or had you ever even thought about it?. It was when I was discovering the actual Hebrew pronunciation of the names of many biblical characters that I learned of this for myself. I still have an affinity for the name of Jesus but now like to call Him Yeshua like many on RITAN. I also like to call Joseph...Yosef, Yusef is the more Arabic pronunciation... Jacob and James...Yacov, Issac...Yitzhak, John...Yohannon, and of course Miriam and Mary...Miri, others are David...Da'vid, Solomon...Shlomo, Nathan...Na'tan, Rachel is pronounced Ra'quel, Esther is Ha'dassah and so on.

I believe that Yeshua Ha Mashiach is correct in Hebrew and the Aramaic is Eashoa Ma'sheekha. Somebody help us on this if you can. I believe Yeshua to be a correct Hebrew rendering of the word.

I can see that. I like Yeshua too. It's just that since I the time I was little, I've always called him Jesus, so for me to automatically switch feels..different, I guess you could say? But, we all know we are referring to the same Lord and Savior, either way.

I like Yeshua, because like Miriam says, I like the sound of it, and it sounds more "intimate" to me. However, I'm not a purist when it comes to that name. I rebuke demons in the name of Jesus.

For me, it's almost like... "Jesus" is the formal name, and "Yeshua" is the pet-name, even though it's His actual name. :P So when I mean business, I use Jesus, but when I'm cuddling with Him in prayer (lol) I use Yeshua.

His name is varied across languages and I'm sure across time, as well, as those languages have changed. He knows our heart, so I don't worry about which name I use, either. I do call Him Yeshua because I love the sound of it, but I introduced my children to Him as Jesus, so when we talk about Him or pray to Him, we use Jesus. It's all good in my book :-)

It's only been since the past few years that I have seen people insistant upon calling Him Yeshua. I saw it as a movement. I refer to Him as Jesus. I don't think He misunderstands me or thinks I have Him mixed up with someone else, or doesn't listen to me as I humbly go to the foot of the Cross and before the Throne of God, when I call Him Jesus. Maybe it's not technical enough for some people, but I know that He knows that I am referring to Him and believe on Him as the only Son of God, who came to die for our sins and was resurrected and is now seated at the right Hand of the Father.

The reason for the divergent lineage from David is also very cool. Yeshua is of the house and lineage of David. Two different beasties, allowing God to keep all of His promises, even the ones that looked contradictory for a rather long time.

A. The complete phrase is “house and lineage of David”. Comparing the genealogies of Matthew 1 (Joseph’s) and Luke 3 (Mary’s), you can see that both Joseph and Mary were descended from King David. Therefore both were of the House of David. But Matthew’s account shows that unlike Mary, Joseph was also in the royal line of succession through King Solomon and therefore of David’s lineage as well. (Luke 2:4) Mary was a descendant of Solomon’s brother Nathan.

Just before the Babylonian captivity God had cursed the royal line, saying that no King would ever come from them again (Jere. 22:28-30) and yet He had promised David that descendants of Solomon’s would rule over Israel forever. (1 Chron. 17:11-14)

Jesus was a blood relative of Mary’s, and therefore of the house of David. When Joseph married Mary, Jesus became his legal son and therefore entered the Royal line. Now He was of the house and lineage of David. But since He and Joseph were not biologically related, He escaped the blood curse. Thus Jesus became the only man since 600 BC qualified to become the King of Israel and sit on David’s throne, something Gabriel had promised to Mary (Luke 1:32-33) and that will be fulfilled in the Millennium.

Yup. That's why I prefer to call our Lord "Yeshua", as that's what folks called Him in Aramaic. "Jesus" is the Anglicized version of the transliterated "Yeshua" that turned to "Iesous" in Greek. They don't have a "sh" our an "ua" sound in Greek, so they had to go with a "s" and a "ous" for the ending of a male name. That turned to "Iesus" in Latin, which then gained a "J" in the Middle Ages sometime and became our modern "Jesus" of today.

Also, Matthew is actually "Levi" in Hebrew and John's name was Yohannan.

Yes Shiloh...believe I saw something about that also. Those burial boxes you refer to are called an ossuary and they are a limestone container used to hold the bones of a dead person. Historically, ossuaries tend to be used in areas with high populations and little burial space since they require much less space than a grave of the familiar kind. After death, the body is reposed in a tomb until it decays (not long in the absence of modern embalming). Afterwards, the family disinters the bones, cleans them, and re-inters them in an ossuary for long-term burial. I also found through more research that Joseph's [Yusef's] father was either/or both a Jacob [Yacov] and/or Eli. Here is what I found: Matthew makes Joseph the son of Jacob, whereas Luke represents him as Heli, or Eli. He could not naturally have been the son of both these persons [thus] Jacob and Eli are different names for the same person. They are obviously two different genealogies from the common ancestor David.....[T]he genealogy in Matthew is that of Joseph, and the one in Luke that of Mary - the former being the legal, and the latter the real genealogy of Jesus.....
Furthermore, Mary is always called by the Jews 'the daughter of Heli' and by the early Christian writers 'the daughter of Joakim [Yachim] and Anna. Now, Joakim [Yachim] and Eliakim (as different names in Hebrew for God) are sometimes interchanged; so that Heli or Eli is an abridged form of Eliakim interchanged for Joakim or in Hebrew [Yachim]." Larel, me and my husbamd saw something about this too on the Discovery channel awhile back. It was a documentary where they found (I forget what they call them) these oblong, stone/cement boxes that contained bones of different people and were engraved on the foot of the box/container. They said her name was actually Miriam too.

Once while reading the Koran I received a real revelation as I wondered why the Koran referred to Mary, the mother of Jesus as Maryum? Well after some serious searching I found out why. For some time now I've known that the name we use for Mary, is a anglicized version of the nickname given Miriam, Mother of Jesus and was something commonly done, even back then by the Jewish people... shortening names like Miriam to Miri. That is why in the Quran [Koran] the Muslims call her Maryum in their references to her there. Maybe some of you knew this but for me it was a real eye opener. According to Catholic teaching Anne of David's house and line, was the mother of the Virgin Mary and grandmother of Jesus Christ again according to Catholic tradition. Mary's Father according to Catholic tradition was Joachim. However, The gospels tell us nothing about Mary's parents, and there is no contemporary material outside the Bible, about Mary, her life or her family. We can not say who her parents or grandparents were. Luke 3:23 says that Joseph was the son of Heli. This is thought to be a Hellenization [Greek] version of the Hebrew name ELI. Here it is in the KJV..."Jesus was about 30 years old when he began [his ministry]. Jesus, so people thought, was the son of Joseph, son of Eli". My how we read over some things in Scripture and do not see the obvious. I continue to live and learn...thank the Lord. If anyone has anything to add feel free to do so.

Based on reading the local newspapers Richard said..."It was saying the whole world was talking about this incident and that the French presidential candidates have had particularly fiery/harsh anti immigrant rhetoric. Our French teacher told us the extreme right wants to literally deport all illegal immigrants (she is also racial and anti-semitic) and close borders to any new immigrants. I think she said the far left was like that too, and even moderates want to make it harder to become a French citizen. Its the worst anti semitic attack since 1982. They have temporarily stopped the election to pay respect."

Richard said that they discussed this in French class today and, that this murderer has also killed Black and Muslim citizens. He has got to be found. Chicago had a very violent weekend this past weekend, 10 people murdered and 40 wounded. I have been listening to sirens all day because, its Spring break season. 50% of the plates here are out of state. People are going about their lives as if none of these other things are significant.

I agree Mary, there are many senseless murders in this country and the child abuse is devastating. Pittsburgh is a tough town. My youngest son was living in Indiana PA. He goes to Wyotech and is suppose to return the end of April to school. I want my boys near me. My other son is in France and, I have not been able to get a hold of him to get more info on this tragedy. I want to know what the French locals are saying. Jews in Israel are telling the Jewish French people to make an Aliyah NOW. There are 700k Jews in France! This mother is going to return to Israel with no husband and, no children.

BUT it also breaks my heart when I see increase of child/baby murders that are on an increase in this country. A three month old baby girl was raped. MY GRANDAUGHTER is has just turned two months old. It blows my mind. And when people either want or belive the rapture to be years away....what kind of world will it be 5 years from now without the rapture?
