This is a book report but it's more than a book report. It contains facts that are very real and contribute to our understanding of the judgement America is facing today. It will be in depth and take some days to report it all.

"They had no idea it was coming. They thought it would all go on as it always had , as if it would never change. They had no idea what was about to happen or what it was all leading to. Everything they had known to this point , their entire world would vanish.
Who?
An ancient people..an ancient kingdom. Israel, the northern kingdom, eighth century B.C. They should've known. It was all there from the beginning but they forgot.
Forgot what?
Their purpose, their foundation, that which made them unique. No other nation had been called into being for the will of God or dedicated to His purposes from conception. No other people had been given a covenant. But the Covenant had a condition. If they followed the ways of God, they would be the most blessed of the nations. But if they fell away and turned against His ways, then their blessing would be removed and replaced by calamity, as they did, and as it was.
A sort of spiritual amnesia occurred. When it began they were still using God's name but with less and less meaning behind it. Then they started merging Him, confusing him with gods of other nations. And then they began turning against Him, subtly at first, then outright, then brazenly--driving Him out of their national life and bringing in idols and altars of foreign gods. They rejected their covenant, abandoned their standards, and exchanged the values lived by for those they had never known--spirituality for sensuality, holiness for profanity, and righteousness for self interest. They cut themselves off from the faith in which their nation had been established and became strangers to God. And as for their most innocent children, they offered them up as sacrifices.
They literally killed their own children.
...And yet in spite of all this God was merciful and called to them again and again. How? Through the prophets. But they rejected the call and declared war on those who remained faithful. They branded them as trouble makers, irritants, dangerous, and finally enemies of the state. They were marginalized, vilified, persecuted and even hunted down. The nation grew deaf to the call of those trying to save them from judgement. The alarm would have to grow louder and the warnings more severe.
They would enter a new stage. God would remove the hedge of protection of national security that had kept them safe to that point. as long as it was in place, they were safe. But once it was removed , everything changed. The enemies could now enter. A new phase--it began the days of calamities and shakings. The days of final warning.
Unless you understand what happened then, you'll never understand what is happening now. It's a key for the appointed time, for a word to be given, and for a message to go forth. This time it is not for an ancient nation. It's the appointed time for America. For a mystery to be revealed and a message to be given to America.
What does America have to do with ancient Israel?
Israel was unique among the nations in that it was conceived and dedicated at it's formation for the purposes of God.
But there was one other--a civilization also conceived and dedicated to the purposes of God. America. It's rise and fall would be dependent on its relationship with God. It would need to aspire to its calling. To be a vessel of redemption, an instrument of God's purposes, a light to the world. It would give refuge to the world's poor and needy, hope to the oppressed. It would stand against tyranny. It would fight dark movements of the modern world that threatened to engulf the world. It would liberate millions. It would become the most blessed, most prosperous, most powerful, and most revered nation on earth--just as its founders had prophesied.
But there's another side to the covenant. If it fell away from God, its blessings would be removed and replaced with curses. Because to whom much is give much is required.
In the same way Israel turned, it started with spiritual complacency, then spiritual confusion, then the merging of God with idols, rejection of His ways at first and then became more and more brazen. Tolerance set in.
There is no simple answer for when it started. But there are critical junctures. In the middle of the twentieth century America began officially removing God from its national life.
Idols aren't called idols. But they fill the void where God once was. idols of sensuality, idols of greed, of money, success, comfort, materialism, pleasure, sexual immorality, self worship, self obsession . The sacred increasingly disappeared and the profane took its place. The nation forgot its foundation, its purpse, and its calling. What was once considered immoral became accepted. The culture was increasingly corrupted by the corrosion of sexual immorality, growing continually more crude and vulgar. The nation once dedicated to spreading God's light to the nations began filling the world with pornography and the obscene. Tolerance to everything that opposed God.
It mocked , marginalized, and condemned those who remain faithful to the values now being discarded. Innocence is ridiculed. Virtue is vilified. Children were/are taught sexual immorality in public schools. Nativity scenes were removed from public sight. A strangely intolerant tolerance.
Within ten years of removing prayer and Scripture from public schools, the nation legalized the killing of its unborn. The blood of innocent children now stained at its collective hands. Israel sacrificed thousands on the altars of Baal and Molech. America has sacrificed millions. For its thousands Israel found judgement. What then of America?
God is calling America back but people aren't listening. And so the hedge of protection has been removed. It's all happening again according to the judgements of ancient Israel. The nine harbingers then are the now happening in America.
THE FIRST HARBINGER; THE BREACH, A GAP IN THE WALL.
The gap has caused an opening . In Israel it was in 732 BC. The enemies of Israel invaded the land and wreaked havoc. It's the harbinger foreshaddowing something much greater and more severe--a warning that next time the nation wouldnt recover from. A critical line had been crossed and that anew and dangerous era had been entered.
They missed their wake-up call and so has America. Our walls were breached on 9/11 and we followed making the same mistakes ancient Israel did. america responded as if it was onlya matter of security and defense. There was no real pausing to ponder if there could be a deeper significance to this; no real searching of its ways. For awhile it looked like a revival would take place--if only it had.
It was the sound of an alarm to a sleeping nation to change its course, to save itself from judgement. Both the righteous and the unrighteous were touched by it and perished. It was a matter of sorrow--both a warning and a judgement; each in its own realm. The private realm of individuals and the public realm of the nation. It's in the second realm that judgement remains. The second realm is distinct and separate.
It's exemplified by Abraham Lincoln. Hundreds of thousands died in the civil war. Lincoln spoke of the calamity devastating the nation as a righteous god's judgement. Not of any individual but of the nation. Isaiah and Jeremiah and all the prophets wept and cried out for their people.
It happened, We can't question God on allowing it, but the only question is whether it was allowed for no reason or whether it was allowed for a redemptive purpose. God was there. We drove Him out. Still He was there with those who lost their lives so others could live, He is till there with those who need healing, who lost loved ones , to comfort the ones who mourn. He was with the countless others who would've perished that day if not for countless turns of details and events that saved them .. And for those who perished who are with Him in eternity.. For them it was not a day of national calamity but of release. He was with them and is with them now.
THE SECOND HARBINGER: THE TERRORIST
The ancient Assyrians. The city of Nimrud, 9th century BC. The largest army ever to stand on Mesoptamian soil. They devised new technologies of warfare. The moveable tower , and the battering ram. The empire was a war machine built on the subjugation of other nations and kingdoms; the most brutal people ever to walk the earth then. The very mention of their name inspired dread. Terror! It was the dark Assyrian shaddow that was the terror looming over ancient Isreal's northern kingdom. The danger of which the prophets warned. God's hedge of protection had kept that danger at bay but no more.
The Assyrians caused the breach in 732 BC. They were allowed to break Israel's defenses and were involved in N. Israel's final judgement. The Assyrians were the epitome of evil. They were allowed to break Israel's defense and strike the land to awaken the people from its spiritual stupor. Assyrians are the fathers of terrorism. The ones who plotted out the calamity of the World Trade Center on 9/11 were their spiritual children. When they plotted they used the same speech patterns and same words as Israel's enemies did. Assyrians are the spiritual fathers of al Queda. The very same people who acted over two and a half thousand years ago. its like an ancient drama being reinacted in our modern world. And, so too, did America get drawn into a military conflict --a global battle against terrorism encompassing a war in Afghanistan and Iraq.
In April, 2003, American soldiers would enter the Iraqi city of Mosel. It would become one of America's major operational bases in the Iragi war. Near by near the Tigris and the Khosr Rivers are two mounds of earth . Inside those mounds are the remains of a once great civilization called Ninevah...of Jonah's fame. It was the final resting place of the Assyrian Empire. Assyria is Iraq. It's the same land.
Israel discovered the danger it faced could not be solved by its powerful weapons or the thickness of its walls whe the real danger is inside of them. Apart from returning to God there would be no safety. They were too late in realizing it. So the question is now--what does it mean for America? All the same signs are in place.
Israel's first response to the first invasion was a calamity. It was a reaction of the spirit of pride, defiance, and arrogance. These are words that set a nation a nation's course and foretell its future. They didn't change their course but pursues it with more zeal. So has America.
The vow is a sign of manifestation of the hardening of hearts, the rejection of God's calling, the sealing of a nation's fate through defiance. Vows made are signs of judgement.
Our leaders didn't listen nor recognize this breach for what it was. They boasted instead of their resolve to rebuild better, stronger and taller. They defied God's warning call. They've silenced the alarm and determined to rebuild man's way instead of inviting God to join them; lead them.
Isaiah lived in the time of the ancient Assyran breach of invasion. Isaiah 9:10 KJV was penned then in a prophetic message for us today. It's a harbinger of America's future as we follow that ancient pattern. All nine harbingers are joined to this ancient prophecy.
'The bricks have fallen down,
But we will rebuild with hewn stones;
The sycamores are cut down,
But we will replace them with cedars.'
Each item here is explained in detail in the book. We have done each of them in America , too.
Verse 11 and other parts of this chapter:
'The Lord sets up adversaries to devour Israel.
They do not seek the Lord of hosts.
The leaders of the people cause them to err.
Those lead by them are destroyed.
Wickedness burns through the wrath of the Lord.
The land is burned up.'
Sound familiar? Read the whole chapter and surrounding chapters for contest.
The content is clear. Because there was no repentance from the N. Kingdom of Israel the Lord's judgement will continue and result in their captivity.
More tomorrow. There is hope; we still have people of God here who are following Him, crying out and seeking him. Had Sodom had ten righteous it would've been spared. A nation is one thing , God's people are covered as we've been pointing, too, and they are another matter. The book is leading people to Christ and speaks of the duties of a watchman.
It's amazing to see the coincidences here between these two nations. There's very interseting dates and events to look at yet.
